In short
Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch is an all-you-can-eat hinoki steam and shabu-shabu restaurant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. We enjoyed two rounds of steamed dishes, bonito and spicy shabu-shabu broths, the salad bar, and rice porridge. Verdict: save room for the shabu-shabu—it is delicious too.

A spacious restaurant and kids' zone
Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch has a 110-pyeong space, so the interior was incredibly roomy and comfortable. The tables were generously spaced, making it look ideal for family meals, company dinners, and all kinds of gatherings~
One side of the restaurant had a well-equipped kids' zone playroom where children could run around to their hearts' content. It would be great to visit with kids too!
The unlimited-refill self-service bar is in the middle of the restaurant, so it was easy to reach from any table~

- Weekday lunch ₩16,900
- Weekend and dinner ₩19,900

Hinoki steam by itself is expensive at other restaurants, but unlimited shabu-shabu too for ₩19,900? It felt like excellent value. Before 3 p.m. on weekdays, you can enjoy it at the even better-value lunch price of ₩16,900.

For shabu-shabu broth, there were many options to choose from, including bonito, spicy, doenjang chicken, beef-bone mala, and beef-bone tomato. Some broths have a small additional charge, so please refer to the photo!
Hinoki steam arrives first after ordering on the tablet

Once you sit down and complete your order on the tablet, a huge hinoki steam set is the first thing placed on the table. Put it over the heat and it starts cooking beautifully; the scent of hinoki wood drifting out through the lid was so fragrant and lovely.

The salad bar and Vietnamese wrap station
While the hinoki steam was cooking, we looked around the salad bar and Vietnamese wrap station~ The self-service bar food was kept hygienically and neatly. The salad bar had side dishes including spaghetti, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), fried rice, jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles), salad, muksabal (acorn jelly soup), and bread.

There was also a wide selection of vegetables for Vietnamese wraps, all chopped into bite-size pieces, so they were easy to wrap in rice paper.

Salad bar dishes and Vietnamese wraps, ready to go~

I tried each item, and the food quality was as good as a snack restaurant or a buffet specialty place! The jjolmyeon in particular was spicy and so delicious, haha.

Sauce bottles were prepared at every table, making it easy to refill them as needed.
Hinoki steam with bean sprouts and meat
Once the hinoki steam is fully cooked, a staff member removes the lid for you, so you can eat comfortably. Hinoki steam with clouds of hot vapor~
The hinoki steam contained bean sprouts, meat, mushrooms, bok choy, cabbage, kabocha squash, shrimp, and boiled dumplings. There was a fun variety of ingredients to pick from.

The meat was really, really tender and delicious, with no unpleasant smell. It was steamed moist and tender, so it went down so easily.

Pile on the vegetables and wrap the hinoki-steamed meat in rice paper—it is seriously heavenly~~~
You can conveniently request hinoki steam refills on the tablet!

This was our second refill of hinoki steam, haha. It was so tasty that I wanted three rounds, but I thought we would not be able to eat the shabu-shabu then, so we stopped at two.

For the second refill, they added a bit more bean sprouts before steaming it, which was great because we could eat more vegetables, haha.
Bonito and spicy broth shabu-shabu
After finishing the hinoki steam, ask the staff and they will replace it with a pot of shabu-shabu broth. We chose the most basic and signature options: bonito broth and spicy broth!
When the broths came to a boil, we ladled out some soup to try first. The bonito broth was deeply savory and clean, while the spicy broth was warming yet refreshing and delicious. I was surprised by how good the broths themselves were.

The shabu-shabu ingredients included bean sprouts, cabbage, oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, dumplings, sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes), kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), sausage, and fish cake.
The meat was unlimited too!! There was tender, nutty woosamgyeop (thin-sliced beef belly) and pork neck with savory flavor and a tender texture.

I started with the rich woosamgyeop, then switched to pork neck when it started feeling a little heavy. It was lighter, so I just kept eating, haha.
Conclusion: two distinct charms make unlimited eating possible
We brought over our favorite ingredients and were ready to go~ Every ingredient was good quality.

Fill the bubbling broth with ingredients and let them cook. The shabu-shabu was so good that I was glad we had saved room for it.

A healthy, delicious meal with tender meat and a variety of ingredients~~~

Rice porridge with bonito broth
Even if you are full, do not skip making rice porridge. We saved a little bonito broth, then added rice, furikake, seaweed, and egg to make juk (rice porridge).
Maybe because it had furikake, it was far more delicious than any porridge I had tried elsewhere!!! This addictive porridge makes you forget how full you are and keep eating.
There was even misutgaru (multigrain powder drink) for dessert, which was nice as a palate cleanser on the way out. A sweet, cold drink really is the best way to finish a meal~
From the main dishes to the salad bar, everything was high quality, so this was a truly satisfying Dongtan Station restaurant. If you want to enjoy plentiful, delicious hinoki steam and shabu-shabu to your heart's content in Dongtan, I recommend Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch!!!
