In short
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a Korean restaurant near Gaenari Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. I ordered the 26,000 won kimchi jjigae set with an extra 100g of pork and loved the sweet kimchi, deep broth, and huge rolled omelet. Verdict: a satisfying, comfortable spot for a hearty meal.

I went to Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal for kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) in the evening. It is in the dining alley by Dongtan Gaenari Park, so it is also easy to find when you are craving Korean food near Dongtan Central Park.

⏰ Hours are 11:00 AM to midnight, with a break from 3:00 to 4:00 PM; last orders are at 11:00 PM. Parking, takeout, and delivery are available! Kimchi jjigae served in a large metal basin!! I could not even imagine how good it would be. The name alone was so intriguing.

The wooden sign out front immediately made it feel like this was no ordinary place. As soon as I stepped inside, a rich savory aroma hit me and raised my expectations even more.

A spacious, tidy restaurant interior in Bansong-dong, Dongtan
The interior was very tidy, and the tables were nicely spaced, so it felt comfortable. Each table drawer was stocked with wet wipes, tissues, and utensils, which was convenient too.

The place is spacious enough that it seemed able to accommodate groups. If you are looking for a good meat restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, it would also make a perfectly suitable spot for a work dinner.

Each table has a built-in burner, so you can keep the food simmering as you eat.

I ordered the great-value kimchi jjigae set (kimchi jjigae, rolled omelet, and rice), and because my partner was so hungry, we added extra pork too.

The complimentary sides were black beans and jeotgal (salted seafood). They were clean-tasting rather than overpowering, and I kept reaching for them without even realizing it.

A huge rolled omelet made without water
The rolled omelet arrived first, and it was seriously huge.

They said it is made without adding water, so I wondered whether it contained about six eggs. Dipped in tangy-sweet ketchup, it made for a protein-packed bite. It was so large it practically filled my mouth, with the kind of visual that makes you think the omelet alone could be a meal.

Yangpuni kimchi jjigae with extra pork
The kimchi jjigae came out already cooked, but they told us to let it boil for another two or three minutes before eating.

There were about two big chunks of the extra pork in there, so we cut them up while letting everything boil away. Just hearing it bubble made my mouth water already.

The stew was packed with tofu, kimchi, and pork, and the portion was so enormous that I wondered whether we could finish it all. I am the type who loves the kimchi in kimchi jjigae, and the kimchi here was exactly my taste.

It was a sweet kimchi jjigae that anyone could enjoy. The broth was not too intense, yet had a deep flavor that kept me scooping up more.

Put kimchi and pork over rice, then take a spoonful of broth—that is the ultimate bite. It would be perfect with a drink, too.

For anyone looking for a good restaurant near Dongtan Gaenari Park or Dongtan Central Park, or somewhere comfortable for a work dinner in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, I recommend trying Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal. Next time, I am going to try the pork belly too.
