Weekend lunch wait and restaurant atmosphere

The exterior of Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu, a Munhyeon-dong favorite!

There are plenty of chairs in front of the restaurant, so you can sit while waiting when there is a line.

Use the underground Level B1 commercial parking at Daerim City Plaza, then receive validation for 2 hours.

For the waitlist, simply come inside and write down your place in line right at the front. I visited at 13:30 on a Saturday for lunch; one team was waiting ahead of us, so we got in after around 10 minutes.

Even though it was a late lunch close to 14:00, the restaurant was full of people haha. It is also a restaurant with enough seating when you are looking for a group meal or gathering spot in Munhyeon-dong.

High chairs are ready too, so it seems like a nice place to visit when looking for a Munhyeon-dong restaurant with kids.

There is a noodle-making room at the front, making the kalguksu here look even more promising!

Write a receipt review and you get a whole serving of sirloin for free! The restrooms are inside the restaurant and separated by gender, so they are convenient to use.
Shabu kalguksu broths and how to order

This is the Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu menu. Shabu kalguksu is the main dish, and you can choose Red One broth (regular or spicy) or White One broth (mild, regular, or spicy). The red broth is beef-bone based, while the white broth is based on anchovy and kelp. Choose according to your taste. If you need more, add extra ingredients, or try the crunchy-outside, tender-inside Ppaksak Seafood Pajeon!

Ordering is easy using the tablet at the table, and the table explains how to enjoy your meal, so have a look before digging in.
Two servings of Red One shabu kalguksu
We ordered two servings of Red One and seafood pajeon.

The basic side dish is fresh-style kimchi. If you need more, use the self-service bar, which also has cubed radish kimchi and refill broth.

The main event, shabu-shabu! It always satisfies me with a generous amount of fragrant minari (water celery) and soft-textured mushrooms.

The sirloin for the shabu is good-quality meat too! Such a lovely color, right?

I love that it comes as such a generous spread, including sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes) and ingredients for fried rice. Once the broth is bubbling, add the meat first for a little protein. The clean, delicious meat has no off smell and tastes even better dipped in wasabi soy sauce.
Next, the kalguksu! The house-made noodles are chewy, which made them even more delicious. Kalguksu needs good kimchi, after all, and Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu has delicious kimchi, so you can enjoy the noodles properly too. 👍🏻

Of course, fried rice is the finish! Leave just a little broth to fry it, or leave it a little soupier and make it like juk (rice porridge)—whichever you prefer! The broth is tasty to begin with, so both the fried rice and porridge are delicious.
How the Ppaksak Seafood Pajeon tastes

Ppaksak Seafood Pajeon! As its name says, it is not merely crispy—it is ppaksak crispy.

This is a thick pajeon (Korean scallion pancake) filled with squid, clams, chili peppers, scallions, and more: crispy outside and tender inside, exactly that. The squid and shrimp were plump, substantial pieces too, making it satisfying to bite into. Do note that Ppaksak Seafood Pajeon has chili peppers, so it has a slight kick!
A satisfying meal from shabu-shabu through fried rice
The meeting of clean shabu kalguksu and crispy seafood pajeon
Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a great place to visit when you want both shabu-shabu and kalguksu. With deeply flavored broth, quality meat, chewy house-made kalguksu, and fried rice to finish, it is a Munhyeon-dong restaurant where you can fill up on a hearty meal.
This is a restaurant I visited from time to time already, and I revisited when my girlfriend came to Busan to hang out—and once again, we ate very well. A Busan kalguksu spot that is even better as the cold wind starts blowing these days! If you are craving kalguksu, give it a visit!
