Busanjin restaurant for barley risotto and steak: Brassway

In short

Brassway is a cozy Western restaurant in Busanjin, Busan. My mom, husband, and I had burrata tomato pasta, barley risotto, sous-vide steak, and complimentary baby potato fries after the pizza sold out. Verdict: Brassway is a lovely pick for thoughtful, distinctive food.

Information before visiting Brassway

Today, my mom, my husband, and I had a little date together. My mom had never explored Jeonpo-dong, so while looking for a pretty Western restaurant with a nice atmosphere to take her to, we picked Brassway! ♥️

Visit to Brassway in Jeonpo-dong

Brassway is tucked into a Jeonpo alley! If you are directionally challenged like me, keep your eyes open so you do not walk right past it.. haha. I loved the feel of the exterior from the start.

An atmosphere for dates and special days

It did not feel hugely spacious inside, but that actually made it cozy and atmospheric. I thought it was such a nice place for a date or a special-day meal like ours.

We booked ahead for three, and our table was already set for three people.

I also liked the little glimpses of the open kitchen. Even though the restaurant was full of things, it still felt neat and clean.

I think you can pick up more water and pickles from the front if you run out.

Fresh flowers were placed all around, which seemed to lift the atmosphere even more!!

What the three of us ordered

  • Roast chicken cream risotto
  • Burrata tomato pasta
  • Sous-vide flat iron steak
Ordered Western dishes and cola

And cola 🍹 We actually wanted pizza too, but it had sold out early that day ㅠ-ㅠ. Seeing how disappointed we were, the owner gave us baby potato fries on the house.. 💕 Such amazing thoughtfulness.

Letter written on the table
A sudden letter

There is a letter written at every table. Sure, it is a letter that gets passed around again and again, but it still makes you feel good, right? ~

How was the burrata tomato pasta?

Burrata tomato pasta

Honestly, I am not usually a tomato-pasta person. But my mom wanted tomato pasta, so we ordered it, and it was sooo good. If it had only been tomato sauce, it might have tasted a little plain, but the cheese came together with it and made the flavor incredibly rich. And it was not as though there was only a little cheese in it, either.. You really have to try this. Even I, someone who does not normally like tomato pasta, thought it was delicious, so I think tomato-pasta lovers would enjoy it even more!

Cream risotto with a distinctive barley texture

Roast chicken cream risotto

The roast chicken cream risotto was a little different from the usual rice risotto I have had. Maybe because it is made with barley, it has this pleasantly chewy, popping texture—and I loooved that texture. The cream sauce is quite rich and thick, but the little bites of barley keep it from feeling only heavy, so I kept reaching for more. That said, it may feel different if you are expecting a typical soft risotto. So I thought the texture could be a little polarizing, but for me, it was a total yes~ 😋

Sous-vide flat iron steak and sauces

Sous-vide flat iron steak

Personally, this was one of the dishes I was looking forward to most! Naturally, since steak is the main event ~

Medium-rare sous-vide flat iron steak

It was cooked around medium-rare, and the meat felt like it melted in my mouth—without being tough or dry at all.

Steak and accompanying sauces

The steak itself was delicious, but the sauces served with it were really good too. It was delicious dipped simply in the yellow sauce, in the whole-grain sauce, or lightly in Maldon salt; each way let the flavor of the meat come through properly. The meat was so tender that we finished it in no time... 😗

Complimentary baby potato fries

Brassway baby potato fries

These Brassway baby potato fries were given to us because we were sad about not being able to order pizza. This was actually a menu item we had considered ordering, then put off for a moment thinking we would try it first—but it would have been terrible if we had not tried it...!!

Complimentary baby potato fries

They were so delicious, light, and nutty that I found myself thinking, were potatoes always this good? As I ate, I thought I wanted to make them at home too, but there is no way I could get this flavor and texture at home.... 😭 The outside was crisp, while the potato flavor itself still came through. They were delicious with the steak and also amazing simply dipped in sauce. Personally, if you go to Brassway, these baby potato fries are an absolute must-recommend menu item 💕

Western dishes photographed mid-meal

The dishes came out one at a time, and I thought there was no way I could wait patiently enough to take an overall shot. But then I changed my mind (?) and thought, I can just take one while we are eating ^_^ so here is a mid-meal shot 📸

Plates after a completely finished meal

Yes, that is what happened. It was so delicious that I felt I should photograph the plates we had completely cleaned, too. Looking at the dishes as a whole, Brassway's flavors seem rich and very present. But it was not simply salty or aggressively seasoned; it felt like the flavors of many ingredients had been layered deeply. Personally, it felt less like they had merely cooked dishes and more like they had created something like artworks through cooking. You could really feel that the food was made with care. Next time, I want to try the pizza we missed today and the galbi pasta. When you want more thoughtful, distinctive Western food rather than an ordinary pasta place in Jeonpo, or want a date in a pretty atmosphere, I recommend Brassway in Jeonpo 😙
