Yangyang café for iced tea and cookies with kids: Cafe Dunchi

While three families, 13 of us in all, were traveling together with our children, we stopped by Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치) looking for something a little different. This waterside café on Yangyang's Namdaecheon lets you have dessert and take an electric boat ride.

Where is the café and when can you use it?

Cafe Dunchi is in the Watersports Center at 295 Ilchul-ro, Yangyang-eup. The café hours listed in the original post are 10:00–21:00 daily, while boat operating hours are 10:00–18:00.

What can you see from the second floor?

The café has a first and second floor. The second floor, which I looked around first, had high ceilings that made it feel open, while the wood-toned interior felt cozy. Green fields and the sea horizon were visible through the windows, and I enjoyed taking in the view.

What drinks and desserts are there for children?

Along with coffee, there were house-made yanggaeng (sweet bean jelly), cookies, cakes, and juices for children. It was a good selection for everyone in the family to choose something.

We ordered two iced teas and cookies that the children liked. As we ate, we looked at the scenery outside and explored the café.

As we looked around, there were several spots where I wanted to take photos. After dessert, we went down to the first floor for the electric boat.

How did we prepare for and operate the electric boat?

Child and adult life jackets were available inside on the first floor. Everyone in our family who was boarding put one on, then followed staff instructions to the boat.

The children were excited as soon as they saw the boat. My eldest child and their dad boarded first, followed by my younger child and me.

The electric boat we rode was operated by our family without a staff member on board. Before leaving, we were told how it worked and given a timer set for 30 minutes.

Once we tried it, the controls were not particularly difficult. My child also turned the steering wheel to change direction, and especially enjoyed that part.

What stayed with me from boating with the children?

It was convenient that we could drink the beverages ordered on the second floor while on the boat. We could also connect by Bluetooth and play music we liked.

The children enjoyed seeing fish occasionally jump out of the water, and I also had fun during the boat ride. I took in the scenery while looking at the glittering sunlight on the water in front of us.

After getting off the boat, we spent more time looking around the green scenery near the café. The hands-on activity for the children made this a memorable stop on our family trip.
