Private room BBQ dinner with parents in Changwon: Anmin Jung-dong

In short

Anmin Jung-dong is a fresh pork charcoal grill restaurant near Yunicity Park in Jung-dong, Changwon. The writer booked by phone and brought her parents for the whole pork set (₩59,500) plus two extra servings of pork neck and pork belly, creamy draft beer and a ₩6,000 doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) to finish. The food, the quiet room-like seating and the staff grilling service won her parents over, and Anmin Jung-dong became their regular spot near Yunicity.

Everything about Anmin Jung-dong was top-notch — the food, the vibe, the service. I took my parents here and made it our go-to reservation spot. This review starts now. It was seriously sooo~~~ good !!!!!!!

I'd give it 100 stars

The interior is spacious yet cozy, and my parents loved it right away. This is a place that works just as well for a date as it does for taking your parents out.

There's a semi-private, room-like space that felt really cozy — worth booking ahead if you want it.

Booking a room by phone and the table setup

We booked by phone and were shown to our seats, where the chopsticks, side dishes, and plates were all beautifully set.

Even the chopsticks were neatly wrapped in paper — so clean! It felt like being pampered !! The side dishes, sauces, and condiments were clearly made with care, and there were so many kinds that we could mix and match — more on that below.

We looked at the menu right away.

++ Tip: write a receipt review and hit save, and you get a free plate of pork skin — definitely claim it! Thick, chewy, savory pork skin, really delicious.

We ordered the whole pork set. It comes with belly, neck, special cuts, and pork skin all together, and the meat itself was so good that we ended up ordering more later.

Drinks: the creamy draft beer my mother loved

The drink selection was great too — not just beer and soju, but creamy draft beer, highballs, and cocktails as well! Side note: my mom had the creamy draft beer and fell in love with it.

The full pork platter and grilling by the staff

They brought out the charcoal, and the state of the grill was already sooo~ good.

Another thing I loved — for the size of the place, there were a lot of staff (probably because business is good). The owner had a warm face too, and I could tell they don't cut corners on staffing. With that many staff, every bit of guidance felt genuinely attentive and kind. That really boosted our satisfaction with the service. This place grills the meat for you, and the grilling service was the best. Staff, owner, all top-notch !!!!!

This is our whole pork platter. They oiled the grill, laid down the vegetables first, then put the pork neck on!

It was reeeally thick. Thicker than it looks in the photo. And it was the best pork neck I've had in a while. Soft, juicy, savory, everything at once — ugh. Absolutely delicious.

Once cooked, they move the meat over to a side charcoal warmer so you can keep eating it warm! (It felt like a fancy lamb restaurant, haha)

They plated the first bite for us and told us to dip it in songhwayeom (pine pollen salt) — one bite in and my eyes went wide. Seriously amazing.

Now it's time to enjoy the sauces that came with it.

The 9 dipping sauces at Anmin Jung-dong

  • Shiitake wasabi
  • Salted hairtail entrails jeotgal
  • Fish sauce
  • Cheese fondue
  • Seasonal pickled scallion kimchi
  • Barley ssamjang (soybean paste dip)
  • Fresh cabbage salad
  • Yuzu-pickled radish
  • Songhwayeom (pine pollen salt)

Cheese fondue: My dad, who normally doesn't even like cheese, kept eating it saying it was so good. It went really well with pork belly, even better than with the neck !!! I think there's a white fried rice on their dessert menu that's probably based on this sauce — recommended for carbonara lovers!!

Barley ssamjang: unbelievably good. If even the ssamjang alone can be this delicious...

The scallion kimchi and shiitake wasabi were both delicious too, but honestly the meat itself was so good that eating it with just the salt (songhwayeom) felt like the best way. That's how good the meat was.

The pork skin is juicy and savory when dipped in curry bean powder. How is the skin this soft and juicy?

Adding two more servings: how my parents reacted

Additional servings of grilled pork neck and belly

My parents raved about it so much — praise times 100 — that they said forget rice, let's just order more meat. So we added 2 more servings. My mom and I overwhelmingly preferred the pork neck, while my dad preferred the belly, so we just ordered both.

The staff member grilling for us was so attentive and grilled everything perfectly that my dad wanted to tip her, but we didn't have cash on us, so we couldn't. That's how good both the service and the meat were.

Round two. I genuinely thought my stomach was going to burst haha haha haha haha haha haha

₩6,000 doenjang jjigae with crab and freshwater snails

But my parents said they couldn't skip dessert, so we ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and rice. For just ₩6,000, this dessert stew came packed with a big crab, freshwater snails, bean sprouts, and tofu — such a refreshing crab doenjang jjigae (highly recommend). My parents kept praising the place, laughing the whole time, saying

These days rice prices are high so a lot of places skimp on the rice, but here even the plain rice was really good, which made them even happier.

We walked out completely stuffed and in such a great mood after Anmin Jung-dong. My parents declared they'd finally found a good BBQ spot near Yunicity and announced it's now their go-to reservation place.
