Tender jokbal with no gamey smell in Bundang, Seongnam: Wangchang

I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner recently when I suddenly got a huge craving for jokbal (Korean braised pig's trotter)! So I went to Wangchang Jokbal, which is right near Sunae Station.

It's easy to get to since it's close to Sunae Station, so I wanted to introduce it for anyone who likes jokbal — worth a visit at least once, haha. We came in the evening, and there were more customers inside than I expected!

The dining room at Wangchang Jokbal is pretty spacious with roomy tables, so it looked like a good spot for meeting friends or coming as a group for a work dinner or gathering!!

And Wangchang Jokbal isn't just about jokbal — they also had a variety of dishes to eat alongside it, like jaengban makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles on a large tray), seafood-packed jjamppong ramen soup, spicy sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup), chive pancake, and more! A lot of jokbal places only have makguksu as a side, so I liked that this place had so many options, haha.

After some back and forth, we ordered the half-and-half jokbal and jaengban makguksu!

We ordered the jokbal so we could have original and spicy together, which was perfect since we both wanted to try each kind, lol.

After ordering and waiting a bit, the side dishes started coming out one by one! There were all sorts of generous side dishes to eat alongside the jokbal.

There's a certain fun in picking at these one by one, right, haha. We were already snacking on side dishes before the jokbal even arrived, lol.

Is the half-and-half jokbal enough for two?

And then, finally, the Wangchang Jokbal arrived!

First off, the portion was genuinely huge, lol. With a name like Wangchang (meaning 'a whole lot'), I guess that word wasn't attached for nothing...

There were just two of us, and the portion of jokbal was so generous that at first I wondered if we could really finish it all. But well... we ended up finishing it all^^ The jokbal had a tender, chewy texture that I loved, and it was clean with no gamey smell at all — really tasty! It's good eaten plain, but I still think jokbal tastes best wrapped in lettuce. Put a piece of jokbal on lettuce, add a few extras, and it just keeps going in...

The original was nicely plain and easy to eat, and the spicy version had just the right amount of heat, so switching back and forth between the two kept things from getting boring — we just kept eating!

Why jaengban makguksu belongs with jokbal

And you can't have jokbal without makguksu, lol.

The jaengban makguksu we ordered alongside also came in a pretty generous portion, and it was seasoned sweet and tangy, which made it perfect to eat with the jokbal, haha. One bite of jokbal, one bite of makguksu, and it cuts right through the richness — a combination that just keeps you eating, haha.

With the half-and-half jokbal plus the makguksu, the two of us ended up seriously stuffed, lol. But you know how it is — if it's tasty, you keep eating anyway...? In the end we cleaned our plates thoroughly before leaving><

Is Wangchang Jokbal worth it near Sunae Station?

If you're looking for a good jokbal restaurant near Sunae Station, I'd recommend Wangchang Jokbal! The portion of jokbal was generous, and I liked being able to eat the original and spicy versions together, plus having makguksu on top made for a filling meal for two — solid choice~~

On top of that, the dining room is spacious, so it seemed like a good spot for meeting friends or finding a place for a work dinner or gathering near Sunae Station!! It had been a while since I had jokbal, and it was so good that I think I'll come back the next time I'm craving jokbal around Sunae Station, haha.
