Today I'm reviewing a real, honest-to-goodness favorite recommended by Gwanghwamun office workers — Suksseong Susan Jongno branch, an aged sashimi izakaya near Jongak!!

An all-room bar, comfortable for hanging out with friends near Jongak

If you're looking for a room-style bar near Jongak, Suksseong Susan Jongno branch is perfect~! Every single seat here is a private room, so the seating is spacious and it's a great spot to meet up comfortably with friends.

On top of that the service is great and the side dishes are so reasonably priced for the quality, so whenever I want aged sashimi near Jongak, this is the place I always end up visiting.

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is on Jongak's Jeongumeori-gil (Youth Street), so it seems to be a popular after-work spot for office workers around Gwanghwamun and Jongak.

I came from hanging out at Deoksugung Palace, and it was still an easy, walkable distance!!

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is located on the 3rd floor.

The aging fridge and fish tank at the entrance — how's the hygiene?

True to being an aged-sashimi specialist, right as you walk in there are really big fish aging inside a refrigerator!! There's also a large fish tank inside the restaurant, and it was managed so cleanly that I couldn't spot a single bit of scum on it,,!! That level of hygiene attention makes it a place you can trust and eat with confidence.

Every seat here is a private room, so it's a great place to have fun with friends~! I was glad to find a proper room-style bar like this near Jongak.

Lunch kaisendon and dinner side dishes

Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch also serves a lunch menu, so it seems like a great place for office workers near Jongak to come try kaisendon (seafood rice bowl)!! Since the aged sashimi is so good, I'd recommend the kaisendon. Lunch runs from 11:00 to 14:00.

I visited for dinner so I skipped the lunch menu and browsed everything else instead — from aged sashimi to specialty dishes and fried items, side dishes good for both a first and second round of drinks!!

Free corkage, and what I ordered that day

And this place has free corkage too, so if you're looking for a spot near Jongak with both a private room and free corkage, Suksseong Susan is the best.

The complimentary side dishes are edamame and soft tofu

Another great thing here — the complimentary side dishes are edamame and soft tofu!! These are things you'd have to order separately elsewhere, and they're seriously tasty~~

The dishes came out right after ordering.

Aged sashimi platter served right away

The ₩60,000-range aged sashimi platter — how's the portion and lineup?

I was surprised at how generous the portion was even though the aged sashimi was only in the ₩60,000 range!!

There's enough for two pieces per fish type, so it seems like it'd be a great choice even if you came just for the sashimi alone.

Red seabream and salmon! Each slice was so thick that the texture was amazing.

I also got to enjoy the luxury of wrapping amberjack with ankimo (monkfish liver) in seaweed, and the tuna practically melted in my mouth.

The olive flounder was beautifully scored too! You could really tell the difference in the fattiness of olive flounder.

The sweet shrimp were also packed full of innards, so I really enjoyed those too.

In-season gizzard shad salad — what about the small bones?

And the gizzard shad salad, which is in season right now!! Some places give you mostly vegetables when you order a raw fish salad, but here it was half fish, half vegetables.

Gizzard shad is notoriously hard to debone, but they really removed the small bones so well that I barely noticed them.

So I could dig in with the vegetables without worrying about it at all!! If you want to try fall gizzard shad this year, try it at Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch.

The hidden-menu snow crab innard cream croquette

And the hidden-menu item here, the snow crab innard cream croquette!! This was genuinely the best croquette I've ever had...

It's packed full of innard cream inside, so if you like crab innards, this is the kind of insanely good flavor where you could eat all three by yourself in one sitting hahaha.

Extra soft tofu given as a complimentary side dish

And what surprised me was that they gave us an extra serving of soft tofu as a complimentary side dish!! Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch is such a great place to come drink~! I'd love to visit again.
