I visited Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch (숙썽수산 종로본점), a great place in Jonggak for aged sashimi and a drink.

With aged sashimi as its centerpiece, the menu has a pretty wide variety of drinking dishes, from seafood to pasta and fried foods. Best of all, the seating is divided into private sections, making it a nice choice for a gathering with friends or a date.
Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch, easy to find from Jonggak Station
It is an easy walk from Jonggak Station, over by Jonggak Youth Street. Suksseong Susan is on the third floor, and its sign is easy to spot from outside, so it was not hard to find at all~!
An aged-sashimi specialist atmosphere with private seating
As soon as I walked in, it felt more like a proper sashimi restaurant than a typical bar. There is a fish tank, and you can see fish being aged, so from the entrance alone, you really get that this is a place specializing in aged sashimi.
Unlike regular live-fish sashimi, Suksseong Susan mainly serves fish aged at low temperatures. The process preserves the fish's characteristic savory flavor while making the texture a little softer and chewier, so if you already love aged sashimi, this is a good place to try!

One thing I really liked about Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch was its private seating layout. The restaurant itself was larger than I expected, and each table was separated with partitions and curtains, so the neighboring tables did not feel distracting.
It was not a completely enclosed, stuffy room, but it still gave each group a comfortable space to chat. It looked suitable for a Jonggak date, a get-together with friends, or even a company dinner.
A menu with sashimi, pasta, fried dishes, and soup
Aged sashimi is, of course, Suksseong Susan's signature! Alongside it are seasonal seafood, dressed raw fish, pasta, fried dishes, and soups, so it seems easy to cover both the first and second rounds in one place.

They also offer lunch dishes, so it seemed like a good lunch option for nearby office workers. There are plenty of choices to add when sashimi alone feels a little lacking, and it would be fun to visit with a group and order a bit of everything.
My order: aged sashimi, grilled shrimp, and croquettes
This is what I ordered! I chose dishes that would not overlap, from aged sashimi to grilled shrimp and fried food, and it was just the right combination to have with drinks, haha.
- Aged sashimi for 2 ₩69,000
- Salt-grilled shrimp ₩29,000
- Red snow crab innards cream croquettes ₩19,000

After ordering, the complimentary starters came out first. There was not only edamame but also soft yeondubu (extra-soft tofu), which was great to pick at while waiting for the mains.

The yeondubu was especially better than expected! The salty sauce went so well with the soft tofu that it was a great starter for a drink even before the main dishes arrived.

Salt-grilled shrimp cooked at the table
Salt-grilled shrimp ₩29,000
The shrimp arrive on a bed of salt and start cooking right at the table! Since aged sashimi is all about that cold, chewy texture, ordering the warm, nutty salt-grilled shrimp alongside it made for a really nice pairing.

When the timer goes off and the shrimp are cooked, a staff member comes over to adjust the heat. Before peeling them, they cut off the heads and set them aside to fry. Then they came back with the fried heads for us!!
Once peeled, the shrimp meat was moist and springy! Its gentle sweetness and the salty seasoning came together just right, so it was delicious even without any sauce. The heads had an especially rich, nutty flavor too, so if you love shrimp heads, make sure to enjoy every last bit.

They also gave us cho-gochujang, a sweet-and-tangy red chili dipping sauce!!
Aged sashimi for two, with thick cuts of several fish
Aged sashimi for 2 ₩69,000
Suksseong Susan's signature aged sashimi for two! It costs ₩69,000. Several kinds of sashimi arrive beautifully arranged on one platter, and the presentation looked incredible from the moment it came out~

It let us sample a range of fish at once, including large olive flounder, red seabream, salmon, yellowtail, spotted knifejaw, and Pacific bluefin tuna, so it was more fun to choose among them than eating just one kind of sashimi.

Most of all, this was not the thinly sliced style of sashimi. Every piece was cut quite thick, so you could really feel the texture when chewing it.

From the clean-tasting flounder and red seabream to the richer salmon, yellowtail, and bluefin tuna, each variety had clearly different flavors and textures, which made comparing them one by one really fun.

It was delicious wrapped in the seaweed that came with it, with a piece of sashimi, radish sprouts, and wasabi. Eating it with white kimchi added a crisp texture too, so I kept reaching for more~~
Rich red snow crab innards cream croquettes
Red snow crab innards cream croquettes ₩19,000
And this was a dish I had quietly been looking forward to that day: red snow crab innards cream croquettes for ₩19,000. I had seen lots of people say this dish was delicious while looking through Suksseong Susan reviews, so I was curious and ordered it too.

They look like ordinary croquettes from the outside, but split one open and it is filled with soft red snow crab innards cream. The outside is crisp, while the inside has the complete opposite texture: soft and thick! The crab innards have such a rich, savory flavor that it definitely felt different from a typical potato or cream croquette.

Having one warm, crisp dish between bites of aged sashimi made the meal feel much more varied! Personally, if you order the aged sashimi, I think this is a good side dish to add.
A good place in Jonggak for aged sashimi and drinks
Suksseong Susan Jongno Main Branch was a nice place to visit when I wanted proper aged sashimi in Jonggak! If you are looking near Jonggak Station for somewhere for a date, a gathering with friends, or a company dinner—or somewhere to enjoy aged sashimi and a drink in a private setting—it is worth a visit.
