I visited Gatjidong Noeun Branch (갓지동 대전노은지족점), a pork cutlet and Japanese restaurant that's so famous around Yuseong I'd recommend it both for a quick office lunch and as the perfect spot for a weekend family meal!

True to its reputation as a go-to pork cutlet spot in Jijok-dong, the menu variety and clean flavors were a given — but on top of that, I felt the owner's thoughtfulness and warm care throughout the meal 👍

Gatjidong apparently means "a freshly made, delicious meal" 🍱 It's a solid choice for office workers near Noeun Station looking for a filling lunch, but it also works great for dates or family gatherings.

It's especially convenient if you're looking for a place to eat near Daejeon National Cemetery or Daejeon World Cup Stadium, before or after a match or a weekend outing! For anyone around Noeun-dong in Yuseong-gu looking for a good-value, satisfying lunch, here's my detailed parking tips and menu recommendations!

The vibe inside and the Sunday lunch rush

The interior is decorated in a clean, comfortable style. It's all table seating, so it's easy for older folks too, and it's great for group meals or family gatherings. Baby chairs and kids' tableware are thoughtfully prepared, so it also felt very manageable for families visiting with young children!

When I visited for Sunday lunch, the place was almost fully booked, and apparently it's popular for quick weekday lunches with nearby office workers too — truly living up to its reputation as a Yuseong favorite 👏

What's on the free self-service bar?

One of the most satisfying things about Gatjidong Noeun Jijok Branch was the generous free self-service bar!

Free self-service bar corner
Side dishes and soup prepared at the self-bar

Before the main dish arrives, you can scoop yourself a bowl of warm, soft old-school Western-style soup (경양식 스프), and finishing a bowl really warmed me up inside 😋

Broth and rice from the self-bar

You can also help yourself to as much broth and rice as you like, but the main dishes are so filling on their own that even the basic serving left me pretty stuffed!

Grabbed some pickled radish and kimchi from the self-bar too — now the meal is officially ready!

What we ordered and how fast it came out

The menu ranges from refreshing summer soba to pork cutlets to spicy rice bowls, so I ordered a bit of everything to suit different tastes! After checking out the self-bar and having some soup, the food came out really fast — I expected a long wait since it was busy, but it was so quick I was actually surprised haha. Total crowd-pleaser for Korean tastes 🔫 The speed would be perfect for office workers whose lunch break is precious time lol.

Soba plate + pork cutlet set — ₩13,800

Soba plate and pork cutlet set

The best pick if soba alone feels a bit lacking! A pork cutlet comes with it so you can eat plenty and feel satisfied.

Close-up of buckwheat noodles dipped in tsuyu

Dipping the chewy buckwheat noodles into the cool, savory tsuyu sauce instantly chases away the heat. The pork cutlet that comes with the set also had a crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside batter that paired perfectly with the soba.

Whole mozzarella cheese pork cutlet — ₩14,800

A plate of whole mozzarella cheese pork cutlet

Living up to Yuseong's reputation for pork cutlets, the visual alone is overwhelming! The thick cutlet is packed full of savory mozzarella cheese, so every bite comes with a fun cheese-pull. Highly recommend this one for families dining out with kids.

Just watching the mozzarella cheese ooze out with every slice showed how generous the owner is with the cheese.

Taking a bite confirmed the meat quality was great, and the cutlet sauce was excellent too! The flavor wasn't just about the cheese cover — the pork cutlet itself tasted really good on its own.

Spicy gyudon (辛카라이 규동) — ₩10,800

A bowl of spicy gyudon

A spicy rice bowl that perfectly balances out a table of pork cutlets, which can otherwise feel a bit heavy! Tender bulgogi came together with a punchy, spicy house sauce that had me eating to the very last spoonful without getting tired of it.

Beef gyudon tossed in spicy house sauce

The zesty, appetite-boosting house-made spicy sauce combined with tender beef creates an explosion of spicy-sweet, savory flavor. I cleaned the whole bowl without any greasy aftertaste 🌶️ The bowl was big and the portion generous, so it was a satisfying meal.

Free kids' service that makes dining with children easy

And here's the decisive reason I'd strongly recommend this place for a weekend family meal! The free service for young guests is genuinely top-tier 👶 They offer as many as five different kids' services, all completely free, for parents visiting with young children!

From baby chairs onward, they take such careful thought into their kids' services that you can dine comfortably and happily with young children or nieces and nephews without feeling self-conscious at all!

The kids' tableware has such a cute design that children would love it, right? I was surprised to find hair ties at every table too. And on top of that, even basic medicine..!! Such a thoughtful owner..💛

Overall review

A freshly made, warm meal, reasonable prices, a plentiful free self-service bar, and truly top-tier kids' service — Gatjidong Noeun Jijok Branch was full of care from start to finish! Between the delicious dishes and the owner's thoughtfulness in stocking hair ties and basic medicine, this place warmed my heart the whole time I ate 🥰
