Why I booked Project Lure: curls fallen out and frizzy flyaways

I got a magic setting perm at Project Lure, a hair salon in Sangdae-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon. My biggest hair worry was that my flyaways were frizzy and my curl had completely fallen out, so it was becoming impossible to manage.

When I let my hair down it was frizzy, and when I tied it up it sagged, so I stopped taking photos even on trips. Worrying about this, I heard that a salon in Yuseong, Daejeon was great at recovery-focused magic setting, so I booked an appointment with Director Dain and visited.

Project Lure is right next to Paik's Coffee. Follow the white sign inside and you'll see the Project Lure shop right away. I had an appointment before another schedule so I took a taxi, but apparently there's also parking in the building's basement! Walking further into the building, you immediately see the shop, and a price list was set up right at the entrance.

Walking into the salon, I fell for the upscale interior. Clean but luxurious — totally my taste.

Before: what my hair looked like

A little embarrassing, but here's my before photo. Even if I dried my hair carefully it stayed frizzy and unmanageable, so I always ended up piling it up with a claw clip...

Before the treatment there was a simple check where I could write down the parts that were hard to explain verbally, and the stylist checked my hair condition before proceeding — I liked that. There was also an N PAY payment promotion running.

Drinks at Project Lure, including non-alcoholic beer, and how long the perm took

While the perm solution sat, I took another shot because the interior was so pretty. The objects were exactly my taste, I really wanted them. Drinks available were coffee, chamomile tea, peppermint tea, orange juice, apple juice, cola, cider, and non-alcoholic beer. A hair salon having non-alcoholic beer — the director's sense of style is top-tier.

Even while applying the perm solution, she checked my hair condition before continuing. She checked my hair periodically throughout and even prepared tea and snacks so I could relax comfortably.

Heading over to rinse, the shampoo room was really luxurious, and since your neck usually gets uncomfortable when getting your hair washed at a salon, the neck cushion made it genuinely comfortable.

How the magic setting perm works: reduction solution and acid rinse

She applied a reduction perm solution matched to my hair's damage level. It helps protect hair during heat perm treatment and reduce damage, and also removes impurities left in the hair after heat perming. My hair felt like it was softening, which made me happy.

After the process, my hair texture became really soft. It looked so shiny that I touched it and was shocked, haha. I kept wondering if it was really my hair and couldn't stop touching it. I'd read a lot of reviews about this place being recovery-focused, and seeing my own hair change like this, I was amazed.

She did a natural thick wave perm, adjusting the time depending on my hair's condition. There was a section where the curl wasn't coming out well, and the director caught it immediately and fixed it.

The massage shampoo bed at Project Lure

Project Lure has a massage shampoo chair!! When getting your hair done you sit for a long time and your back can start hurting, so having a private space where you can get a massage and relax is really nice.

The oxidation and neutralizing steps happened at the massage shampoo chair. After neutralizing, she did a final acid rinse for 2–3 minutes, which apparently prevents the curl from loosening and gives it shine and elasticity. To finish, the director washed my hair, and it felt so refreshing.

As she dried my hair, the natural curl came out right away, and I liked it so much I couldn't help taking photos.

Magic setting perm result: glossy, thick waves

I really, really loved it. It felt shiny and my hair texture felt improved. I came in without any specific style in mind, but the director styled it beautifully to suit my hair — I'm completely satisfied. I'm a salon nomad who's been all over the place, but I'll definitely be coming back here. Thank you, Director Dain.
