Daegu makchang set with Cheongdo minari, 53,000 won: Supbul Makchang
In short
Supbul Makchang is an Iberico makchang (grilled pork intestine) restaurant in Bolli-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, between Bolli intersection and Bolli Park. The 53,000-won set brings two servings of makchang with galmaegisal (pork skirt), pork neck and Cheongdo minari, and the makchang was tender enough that two more servings were added; the retro interior is packed with old objects and a bamboo path leads to a glass annex out back. Pre-grilled makchang with cold draft beer is the draw at Supbul Makchang, and the outdoor seats will be even better once the weather cools.

Today I visited a special Daegu makchang (grilled beef tripe) restaurant that instantly won me over — it felt just like visiting grandma's countryside house from the 80s-90s, cozy and warm, and it even has bamboo forest outdoor seating :)
Supbul Makchang

Where Supbul Makchang is and where to park
It's located between Bolli intersection and Bolli Park! This place is already famous for its atmosphere, so I was excited just on the way there. There's parking right in front of the restaurant, so I could park easily! There's space for about 3 cars, and if it's full, you can use the Galbidungji parking lot right next door.

What are the seats and window view like?
Supbul Makchang has a variety of seating, from 4-person tables to group seats, with plenty of space between tables to move around comfortably. The ceilings are high, so despite being a BBQ place there's no stuffy feeling at all, and every table has a clean ventilation duct, making it great for family meals or work dinners 😊 The window seats especially have an amazing view! Through the big windows you can see green trees, which gives a cool feeling and almost makes you feel like you're outdoors.

The glass annex at the end of the bamboo path
Following the bamboo path along the side of the restaurant, there's another glass annex-like space! You can grill meat here too, and once the weather cools down, this will be the perfect spot for anyone chasing that outdoor-seating vibe. There's even outdoor seating for solo diners too 🙋🏻♀️haha
A retro interior full of old objects
Old objects fill every corner, so it really feels like visiting grandma's countryside house! From an old fan to a wall clock and an old-fashioned telephone, the retro vibes overflow and it was so heartwarming to look around.
The moment you step in, it's a trip down memory lane — so full of old-time charm that you lose track of time
The restroom is inside the restaurant, which is convenient, and it was kept clean and well-managed.
The self-serve corner has fresh wrap vegetables, kimchi, garlic, chili peppers, ssamjang, and various sauces all ready to go! If any side dish runs low, you just grab more yourself, and overall the space was kept very clean.

Supbul Makchang menu and set prices
From their signature Iberico makchang to garlic-seasoned galbisal! On top of that there's beef makchang, galmaegisal, beef galbisal, and pork neck — really a wide variety of meats. The meal menu is also diverse, with naengmyeon (cold noodles), pork stew, hanwoo gopchang jeongol (beef tripe hot pot), and pot rice, so there's plenty of choice 😊

It's a convenient tablet ordering system. They had various set menus ready, and as part of their 1st anniversary review event, you get a free serving of beef makchang for writing a review!

Barley tea in a Del Monte bottle and the side dishes
Wow~ the nostalgic Del Monte bottle showed up here 🤣 You can't put plain water in this! What? It's got to be barley tea!!! Brought back so many memories haha

The basic banchan (side dishes) came out neatly too. There were special side dishes like jaeraegi (green onion kimchi) and acorn jelly salad, along with makchang sauce, chili peppers, and green onions. Especially the kimchi and beef jangjorim (soy-braised beef) tasted even better warmed up on the grill 😋

And the beef radish soup that came as a default side had clear, refreshing broth, so the kids ate it up really well. Light and clean-tasting, it was great to eat before digging into the meat.

Started off today with a cold Asahi draft! 🍺 It's been so hot lately that beer just tastes amazing.. that first refreshing sip is unforgettable.

The 53,000-won set spread and grilling the pork neck
The set menu arrived neatly plated on a round wooden tray! You could feel the care put into every part of the plating, so it was really pleasing to look at.

They also gave us minari to eat alongside the meat, and being fresh, the aroma and flavor really came through! Plenty of wrap vegetables too, which felt very generous haha

They grilled the pork neck along with potatoes and mushrooms on the pan~ It looked thick and delicious just from looking at it. I love it when a place gives you potatoes and mushrooms, I love you.
A sight that makes your mouth water just looking at it — hurry up and grill already..

The grilled pork neck was really soft and juicy. Not greasy, but light in flavor so anyone can enjoy it easily. Though since it's a low-fat cut, if you grill it too long it can get dry, so the tip is to eat it quickly with vegetables once it's just cooked through.

How does the pre-grilled Iberico makchang taste?
Supbul Makchang's makchang apparently uses free-range Iberico pork! Plus, since it comes pre-grilled, it's easy to cook further, and cutting it into bite-sized pieces and grilling it until golden brown was really delicious.
The makchang wasn't chewy at all — crispy on the outside and springy on the inside! The texture was truly perfect

Dipping it thoroughly in the sauce made it wonderfully savory, and eating it together with green chili peppers cut through the richness perfectly.

As they say, round makchang is the best kind. No gamey smell, just soft and savory.. you know how scary a familiar good taste can be, right? Haha

In the end, we ordered 2 more servings of makchang! It was so soft and delicious there was no way not to order more ㅠㅠ This was truly an unavoidable choice! Not really an excuse, more of a confession 🤣
Why Supbul Makchang is worth a second visit
Today was a day I fell for makchang haha 😍 Crispy outside, chewy inside, plus a cold draft beer! Need I say more about that combo~ And once the weather cools down, the outdoor seating vibe at Supbul Makchang is going to be amazing! When autumn comes and cool breezes blow through the bamboo forest, I'll be counting down the days to come back and grill makchang out there 🍂 Whenever you're craving makchang, head to Supbul Makchang, a favorite spot in Bolli-dong, Daegu~
