Reading The Little Prince as a five-level English original

The Little Prince is a story that always gives me so much to think about whenever I read it, and I already love it so much. Then I found out there is a book that lets you encounter it differently across five levels as an English original!

At the moment, if you buy the Dangye English The Little Prince book from the official website, postcards and stickers come with it. I love The Little Prince goods so much, and having eight kinds of postcards and stickers alongside this original-language book with its five reading systems made me impatient for the delivery to arrive! I am going to try an English-original reading challenge before this year is over.

Apparently, it ranked No. 1 in the books category on Wadiz crowdfunding. The Little Prince is an extremely well-known story in Korea too, but encountering it in the original language feels like a whole different dimension.

How I read from Level 1 without a dictionary

Since Dangye English's ultimate goal is to help you read original books and the original text, Level 1, with its easiest vocabulary and sentences, went down so smoothly. Even when an unfamiliar word comes up, it is important not to look up the meaning or ask GPT, but to infer it or move on.

Of course, if one word keeps you from understanding an entire sentence, you should check the dictionary. But because we already know nearly all of The Little Prince story, that hardly ever happens.

It is a great opportunity to improve English confidence, and Level 1 is a time to quickly grasp the story and gain a sense of achievement.

How long is each level, and how difficult are the sentences?

Level 1 runs from page 31 to page 76, for 45 pages, while Level 4 runs from page 193 to page 276, at about 83 pages. It is nearly twice as long, with correspondingly more words and content.

It is the same story, but the reason for reading it in sequence through different stages is that once you understand the basic vocabulary and sentence structures at a lower level, you can easily infer the words and sentences one level up. Even if it is a word you have never seen in your life, reading while inferring it and then finding its meaning makes it stay in our minds for a long time.

Our brains are smarter than we think, so because it is a story learned through repetition, I found it easy to infer even the parts I did not know.

At Level 4, you can clearly see more difficult sentence structures right from the start. There are more varied tenses and far more story details, so I could finally read a full, satisfying version of The Little Prince.

If you read the lower levels several times, you can read the Level 5 original too—and even then, it is not an overly thick book.
