Today I want to introduce a place I visited in Gyodong, Daegu, when I was craving something a bit different from my usual Chinese food rotation. This time I went to Mirim Yangjang Daegu (미림양장 대구점).

Gyodong in Daegu has so many good-atmosphere restaurants and bars that it's always a struggle deciding where to go for dinner plans. This time I wanted something a little special, so I headed to Mirim Yangjang, which serves Peking duck.

That day I ordered a wide range of dishes, including the signature half Peking duck, mala ragu egg noodles, shrimp fried rice, and siumai. I paid for everything myself, so here's my honest review dish by dish.

Where is Mirim Yangjang Daegu, and what does it look like?

Mirim Yangjang Daegu is a Chinese-style bar located at 33 Gyodong 1-gil, Jung-gu, Daegu. I arrived in Gyodong and went looking for the place. Every alley in Gyodong seems to have an atmospheric restaurant or bar, and the neighborhood really comes alive in the evening.

Mirim Yangjang also had that same lively bar-and-dinner vibe. What caught my eye most was that one of its signature dishes is Peking duck — a menu item you don't come across often, so it was the one I was most curious about even before walking in.

Can more than 70 seats handle a work dinner or big group?

Once inside, the space felt bigger than I expected. Mirim Yangjang can seat over 70 people. With plenty of tables set up, it looked like a great spot not just for small visits but also for friend gatherings, group dinners, or larger get-togethers.

Personally, it didn't strike me as a quiet, meal-only kind of place — more like somewhere a group of people order a variety of dishes, chat, and enjoy food and drinks together. That makes it a solid option for a date in Gyodong, a friends' meetup, or a work dinner.

How the Mirim Yangjang menu works: scan it with your camera

Instead of a typical printed menu you flip through, Mirim Yangjang Daegu has you scan a code with your phone camera to view the menu. It was actually nice being able to scan it and take your time browsing before ordering.

The menu turned out to have more variety than I expected. Along with Peking duck, there was

• Jjamppong soup (spicy seafood noodle soup)
• Kkwabaegi rou (sweet and sour pork)
• Mala soup
• Mapo tofu
• Kkanshoo shrimp (spicy stir-fried shrimp)
• Egg noodles
• Fried rice
• Yurin-gi (crispy chicken with tangy sauce)

and plenty more Chinese dishes prepared. If you're visiting with a group, it works well to pick one main dish and add noodles, rice, or dim sum on the side so everyone can share a bit of everything.

On this visit we ordered

That's what we went with. Let's go through each one.

Half Peking duck, 35,000 won

The dish I was most looking forward to on this visit was, of course, the Peking duck. At Mirim Yangjang, making a whole duck reportedly takes at least 30 hours from drying to roasting. Since that's a lot longer than you'd expect, it's not something you can easily find elsewhere — so I really appreciated that Mirim Yangjang lets you order just half a duck.

Tasting it, it was easily the most memorable dish of the whole meal. It's clearly different from the Chinese dishes I usually eat, so it's a great order when you want something a bit special. If committing to a whole duck feels like too much, starting with half like we did is a good option.

Mala ragu egg noodles, 14,000 won

Next up was the mala ragu egg noodles. It's egg noodles stir-fried in a mala ragu sauce — a bit different from a typical Chinese noodle dish, which is exactly what made it interesting.

It lets you enjoy the mala spice along with a ragu sauce flavor, and pairing it with the Peking duck made for a more varied spread. If you like noodle dishes or anything mala, it's worth ordering. Especially with a group, adding one noodle dish alongside the main to share works really well.

Shrimp fried rice, 10,000 won

After ordering dishes like the Peking duck and egg noodles, sometimes you still want a proper rice dish, and that's where fried rice comes in handy to round things out. Adding the shrimp fried rice alongside everything else made for a satisfying way to finish the meal.

Siumai, four pieces for 9,000 won

Last up is the siumai. Mirim Yangjang's siumai is packed with coarsely chopped shrimp and pork and topped with a whole shrimp on top. One bite and it felt satisfyingly full inside.

Since it comes as 4 pieces, it worked well as a side dish alongside our other orders. If Peking duck or noodles alone feel like they're missing something, adding a dim sum dish like this is a good call.

Honest verdict on Mirim Yangjang in Gyodong, Daegu

The dish that stuck with me most from this visit to Mirim Yangjang Daegu was, without question, the Peking duck. Since it isn't a Chinese dish I eat often, it fit exactly what I was after — something a bit different. Being able to order it as a half portion also made it easy to pair with other dishes without overdoing it.

On top of that, adding the mala ragu egg noodles, shrimp fried rice, and siumai meant we weren't stuck on just one dish and could enjoy a range of Chinese food together. If you're looking for something a little different from your usual Chinese food order in Gyodong, Daegu, Mirim Yangjang Daegu is worth a visit.
