Gyodong Daegu outdoor pub: salt-grilled shrimp and soju night, Nampo
In short
Nampo is a shellfish and shrimp grill pub at the entrance of Gyodong in Jung-gu, Daegu, with outdoor round tables. Three of us finished six bottles of soju over salt-grilled raw shrimp (50,000 won), a dried-seafood tower (18,000 won) and spicy seafood ramyeon, with pork cutlet, corn salad and fish-cake clam soup served free as starters. With its own parking and separate Naver bookings for indoor and outdoor seats, Nampo is an easy choice for a group night out.

Looking for a good outdoor pub (야장) for cool autumn nights in Daegu? I can say without hesitation that Nampo in Gyodong is the best outdoor drinking spot in Daegu. I like to drink but I never overdo it — yet the vibe at Nampo's outdoor tables got the better of me, and three of us somehow went through six bottles of soju on our second round of the night!

Where is Nampo in Gyodong, and is there parking?

Nampo sits right at the entrance to Gyodong. Turn into the alley diagonally across from the Daegu Metropolitan City Hall Dongin Building and you'll walk right into it. The 1st floor is Nampo and the 2nd is Sunday Gyodong — if you see tables set up out front for outdoor drinking with strings of twinkling lights, you've found the right place.

There's a dedicated parking spot right in front of the building and the outdoor tables. Almost no place in Gyodong has its own parking like this, so it really stands out. That said, if you're planning to drink outdoors you'll need a designated driver home — so maybe just take public transit tonight, haha >_<
Inside Nampo and the outdoor round tables
Right in front of the shop hangs a white banner with 'Nampo' written in bold black brushstroke style. The interior feels hip starting right from there.

Of course there are full outdoor tables set up in front of the building, but there's also a deck at the entrance that connects to the outdoors — sitting there on a rainy day would feel wonderfully moody.

There's a cozy wood-paneled section for whichever mood you're in, plus a sleeker, more polished stone-walled space — like they prepared both because they weren't sure which you'd prefer.
This spot has a completely different feel too, doesn't it? I thought this table was so pretty — a stone tabletop like something you'd find by the sea, which really suits the seafood Nampo serves.
You can come in groups of 2, 4, or up to 8, and group reservations are easy to make through Naver. I also liked that you can book indoor and outdoor seating separately.
Special delivery for our beloved customer, hehe.
Now that we've toured the indoors, let's check out the outdoor space too! It's set up with round tables, and for groups they'll push tables together — so don't worry, big groups can enjoy the outdoor seating without a hitch!

Sitting at a round metal-ish table under sparkling string lights — the kind you'd find at a seaside vinegar-sauce joint or a street food tent — somehow made the soju go down even faster! There's a self-serve bar nearby stocked with small plates, tongs, and scissors, so you can just grab what you need.

Free starters at Nampo: pork cutlet, corn salad and fish-cake clam soup

You get pork cutlet and corn salad as complimentary starters.

Would you believe this is also a complimentary starter... they even let you boil your own fish-cake clam soup?

You dump all the generous ingredients into the broth and simmer it down into a soupy side dish — ahh, it really settles your stomach. A flavor that's a hangover cure and a drink-summoner all at once!
Salt-grilled raw shrimp, 50,000 won, cooked on hot stones
We ordered the salt-grilled raw shrimp (₩50,000). The shrimp were so fresh and lively that the pot itself was shaking as they flopped around!

When the shrimp turn a reddish color and are cooking nicely, check the color of the heads — if the innards look cooked through, they're ready to eat. I had no idea shrimp could be cooked like this on round heated stones — so fascinating!

This looks perfectly cooked, right?

Two eggs come along too, so you can enjoy grilled eggs as well — a protein bomb of a spread! The shrimp had zero fishy taste and were just wonderfully savory. Shrimp are savory enough on their own to be ground into seasoning powder, but maybe it's because Nampo uses good ingredients — the nutty flavor here was next level.

When you cut off the shrimp heads with scissors and hand them to the owner, they fry them up for you 💛
The smell of butter filled the whole street! The tartar sauce also went perfectly with the fried shrimp heads. Crispy heads, delicious innards inside — honestly, this might be in my top 3 happiest bites at a pub in recent memory 🤍
Spicy seafood ramyeon and the dried-seafood tower

We also ordered the spicy seafood ramyeon, though honestly my memory gets a bit fuzzy from around here...^^ I told myself I wouldn't drink too much tonight, but between the outdoor vibe and the shrimp I kept sipping soju, and I didn't even take a photo of the ramyeon. At least I photographed the order slip^^ The ramyeon had firm, chewy noodles in a spicy broth and was seriously delicious — a perfect match with the grilled shrimp.

As we kept drinking, I got more and more curious about the dried-seafood tower. The lineup on the menu looked so impressive that we had to order it, and oh my god — all sorts of dried seafood came dangling down.

The dried seafood was pretty cold at first, but you're meant to grill it on the tabletop grill. It surprised me that it wasn't the usual hard dried snacks but soft, tender dried seafood. There was gizzard shad jerky too, but the squid and octopus seemed almost fresh — moist and springy.
Beef jerky, gizzard shad jerky, pollack jerky, squid, octopus, dried pollack strips — every dried seafood we love was there. You're full but still craving a snack for the soju, and this menu hit exactly the spot.

My friend kept peeling shrimp for me the whole time — is this not love?... my crazy soulmate...🤍💛
Is Nampo worth a visit? Final verdict
We had a very satisfying meal and grabbed ice cream nearby before saying goodbye.
