Insa-dong solo dining set with bulgogi stone pot bibimbap: Goshine

In short

Goshine Donghae Makguksu Jongno branch is a Gangwon-style makguksu (buckwheat noodle) and Chodang soft tofu restaurant on Insadong 12-gil in Jongno, Seoul. The solo set brings bulgogi stone pot bibimbap with suyuk (boiled pork slices), and a side of kimchi buckwheat pancake rounds it out; even after scraping up the crisped rice from the stone pot, the meal sat lightly. With a hanok-style interior and plenty of space between tables, Goshine Donghae is an easy choice for a meal out with parents.

I heard about a hot spot where you can taste authentic Gangwon-do food, so off I went (๑˙ꄃ˙๑)♡⃛ I really love hunting down clean, not-too-spicy Korean restaurants, so the moment I heard the buzz, I headed straight over.

The interior is really spacious and clean, so it was very comfortable to eat there.

The tables were tidy and well kept, and the spacing between seats was generous and comfortable. The interior is so neat and stylish that it would be more than fitting to bring your parents here for a meal — the atmosphere is cozy. (˙ө˙)

The solo set: bulgogi stone pot bibimbap with suyuk

Looking over the menu, I decided to order the solo set, which packs in a lot for the price. It's a great option when you're dining alone or want to eat well without breaking the bank.

At Goshine Donghae Makguksu Jongno branch, not long after ordering, a generously filled table arrived and it made me so happy. The bulgogi hot stone bibimbap (bulgogi rice mixed in a hot stone pot), chosen as my main dish, arrived sizzling with a delicious crackle.

The moment the lid came off, a nutty sesame oil aroma drifted up and made my mouth water. Fresh vegetables and meat were piled high. (๑•̀ㅁ•́๑) Colorful vegetable toppings and bulgogi were generously packed in, giving it an overwhelming quality from the very first look. I mixed it up with my chopsticks and took a big bite, and

it blended perfectly with the sweet and salty seasoning. The sweet bulgogi sauce and fresh ingredients came together so well

that I couldn't put my spoon down. Thanks to the stone pot, you can enjoy it warm and nutty right down to the last spoonful. (๑❛ڡ❛๑)

The suyuk (boiled pork slices) that comes with the set

Scraping up the crispy rice stuck to the bottom of the pot was such a fun little bonus. The small side dish of bossam (boiled pork) that came with the set also had zero gamey smell and was so tender. It kept its warm temperature all the way through. The ratio of lean meat to fat was just right, giving it a soft, non-dry chew

— truly a standout at Goshine Donghae Makguksu Jongno branch. (๑˙ꄃ˙๑)♡⃛ Wrapped with the spicy dried radish topping that came alongside it, it was absolutely delicious.

Side order: how the kimchi buckwheat pancake tasted

The kimchi buckwheat pancake (memil jeonbyeong) I added as a side was

golden and crispy outside, moist inside. It came sliced into bite-sized pieces, which made it really easy to pick up one at a time.

I was touched by how packed the filling was. It was stuffed with spicy, tangy kimchi filling that cut through any potential greasiness and really perked up my appetite. (•ө•)♡ The buckwheat's distinct nutty, clean flavor spread gently through my mouth, and I loved it.

You could really tell they insist on good ingredients — every side dish and every component felt fresh and clean. My stomach felt completely comfortable all the way through the meal, no heaviness at all — I left thoroughly satisfied. (˙ө˙)

Worth a return visit for Korean food in Insa-dong?

Being able to enjoy authentic Gangwon-do local flavors this cleanly and deliciously right in the middle of Seoul made for a truly satisfying meal. Goshine Donghae Makguksu Jongno branch also has a large, clean space, so I could stay comfortably for the whole meal.

From the food's visuals to the taste and service, nothing was lacking — it's a hot spot I think I'll be craving again soon. (๑•̀ㅁ•́๑) Next time I'm in the mood for good Korean food, I'm planning to come back and eat well again.
