Jongno evening date pizza with wood-fired dough: Backstreet Pizza

I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner in Jongno, and that day I just really wanted pizza. Pizza is love. Genuinely the best thing in the world, ugh.

So that day I went to Backstreet Pizza, a well-known Jongno pizza restaurant. Great choice, honestly — totally my kind of pizza place.

Inside Backstreet Pizza in Ikseon-dong, Jongno

Backstreet Pizza is a pizza restaurant in the basement on Supyo-ro 26-gil in Jongno. I liked the interior the moment I walked in — kind of a pasta-place vibe.

The lighting was pretty and a bit dim overall, which felt even better coming in the evening. It had a kind of blind-date vibe.

It's a pizza place, but it doesn't feel like you're just in and out after a meal — the atmosphere is good for sitting and having a beer! I could see coming here for dinner on a date in Jongno, or for pizza and beer with friends.

What is the quarter pizza? Four flavors on one pie

What we ordered at Backstreet Pizza was the quarter pizza! One pie comes with four flavors, so you get to try a bunch of their menu at once!!!!!!

I love this kind of menu haha. I'm the type who, once I pick one thing, immediately gets curious about the others — so honestly it's a relief to just get four flavors from the start... hehe

When the pizza came out, the four sections were clearly divided, which was totally my kind of visual — though it's a bit dark in there so the photos didn't come out great ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ It looks and tastes even better in person.

The wood-fired-style dough was the best part

What I noticed while eating was that the dough at Backstreet Pizza turned out to be exactly my type, more than I expected! Toppings matter, but if the dough isn't great the whole pizza feels off to me — here the dough was delicious, and I loved it. I'm obsessed with that wood-fired-style dough!!!!

Eaten together with the toppings, the dough's texture never stood out too much but still carried the whole pizza really well. It was so good I'm basically obsessed with the dough at this point hahaha

A regular pizza that looks like a large

Oh, and the size is big too. It's called regular but it's basically a large. Can you tell the size compared to my hand? Genuinely a generous portion for a Jongno pizza place, love it. Two of us ate it and were stuffed — it would've been just right for three!!!

Shrimp Gangster

First we tried the Shrimp Gangster.

It's a pizza topped with shrimp, so it's a welcome flavor for anyone who likes shrimp haha. With cheese and shrimp together, the whole vibe was clearly different from the meat pizzas.

You could really bite into the shrimp, so there was a fun little hunt for shrimp bites while eating each slice.

Of the four, this was my boyfriend's pick. Not too much going on, but full of that dopamine flavor.

Cheese & Patty Bomb

Cheese & Patty Bomb is basically the fundamental, classic pizza feel.

Beef patty, cheese, and tomato together — it's exactly that familiar, delicious combination.

No need to overthink it — if you like meat-and-cheese pizza, you'll just enjoy this one haha. The patty gives you plenty of meaty flavor, and with the cheese on top the whole thing tastes pretty rich. My kind of pick, honestly.

And eating it with beer, I once again realized pizza really does need beer. So happy!!!!!!

Potato Killer

Potato Killer hahaha, cute name.

Just like the name suggests, Potato Killer has fries on top of the pizza.

With fries, cheese, and bacon together, it's hard for the visual alone not to be delicious haha. Tasting it, the fries were slightly on the sweet side.

I went in expecting just a salty pizza, so the faint sweetness from the fries caught me off guard in a good way. Eating the fries together with the pizza instead of separately made the texture more fun too.

Pepperoni Shotgun

Pepperoni is fundamental. Last up, Pepperoni Shotgun! Loaded generously with pepperoni, it's clearly made for pepperoni lovers. I'm pretty weak with spice, so it tasted a bit spicy to me.

Not seriously spicy, but for me it was like, oh, this has a bit of a kick haha. Still, it had that salty, rich, distinctly pepperoni flavor, so it was a satisfying, classic-pizza kind of taste.

Eating it with beer toned down the spice a bit, which made it good for a pizza-and-beer night.

After trying all four flavors

Having tried all four flavors on the quarter pizza, each one was different enough that it was fun picking and choosing. Overall, all four were delicious. Above all, I loved the dough.

Eating pizza with beer alongside it, the mood was good and the food was good — a pretty solid evening date, haha. If you're in Jongno craving pizza and can't decide on just one flavor, I'd recommend trying the quarter pizza to get all four at once.

I'm normally the type who gets curious about other flavors once I pick one, so this menu was very much my thing haha. Bottom line: the pizza was delicious, the dough was especially my style, and the atmosphere was pretty too — feels like I found a solid spot for pizza and beer in Jongno.
