After grinding through the work week, there's nothing like unwinding after work or on a weekend evening with meat grilled golden over charcoal and a cold drink on the side — that's precious time.
Today I'm sharing my visit to a place that's the talk of Hyangnam, where the fun of pulling meat apart meets the pleasure of eating it: 'Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi.' It's got generous portions, a set menu that stands out from the rest, and comfortable parking too. Great for a beer on a weekday evening or a family dinner on the weekend — here's the detailed rundown of this Hyangnam rib spot.

🔎 Three key points I noticed after visiting Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi in person
What time to arrive at Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi to skip the wait
Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi opens at 4:30pm, with in-person number tickets handed out starting at 4:00pm. This place is already famous in the Hyangnam area, drawing about an hour-long wait during peak times. They've got a solid CatchTable on-site waitlist system, so you can register and wait nearby without any stress.
I arrived around 4:20pm and, luckily, got to walk right in with the first round. If you want to save yourself the wait, I strongly recommend doing an opening run around 4pm.

Inside the two-person set: salt, seasoned and spicy ribs, honestly rated
That day we ordered Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi's great-value two-person set. It comes with 1kg of jjokgalbi plus a choice of seafood sujebi (hand-torn noodle soup) or nurungji (scorched rice) cream sujebi as a side — a really solid package. The jjokgalbi can be ordered in a variety of flavors by the 250g portion, so it was fun to mix and match. We went with 2 portions of salt charcoal jjokgalbi, 1 seasoned charcoal jjokgalbi, and 1 spicy charcoal jjokgalbi.
- Salt charcoal jjokgalbi: no gamey smell at all, the meat's natural flavor really came through, and the texture was incredibly tender. Dipping it in the basic seasoning sauce, cumin salt, and spicy sauce served alongside kept things interesting bite after bite.
- Seasoned charcoal jjokgalbi: a mild soy-based sweet sauce soaked all the way through the meat — a classic flavor that pretty much everyone, young or old, would enjoy.
- Spicy charcoal jjokgalbi: not as intense or fiery as I expected, just a pleasantly spicy kick. If it's your first visit, I'd recommend ordering one of each flavor like we did.
- Nurungji cream sujebi: this side dish was seriously something else. Rich cream sauce packed with nutty nurungji, chewy sujebi noodles, and plenty of bacon. It felt like cream pasta with the nutty flavor of scorched rice added in — familiar yet completely new, and thoroughly satisfying.
*The jjokgalbi comes pre-grilled, so when you grill it yourself at the table, just another 2 minutes or so does the trick.

Where to park in Hyangnam 2-jigu: underground lots with 2 hours free
You can park at Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi's own building's underground lot, or use the No Brand underground lot right across the street. For office workers driving in, parking convenience is one of the biggest concerns.
Both lots were spacious with zero parking stress, and you get 2 hours of free parking after your meal, so I could relax and enjoy the meal without worrying about the clock.

The staff were super friendly too, and thoughtful little touches like hair ties and mouthwash for guests stood out.

Is Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi worth it? Final verdict
- Taste/quality: a perfect combo of tender jjokgalbi and the inventive nurungji cream sujebi
- Parking/convenience: extremely easy parking with 2 hours free at the building's underground lot or the one across the street
- Would I return: yes, planning to do the opening run again for the jjokgalbi and sujebi combo
Geochang Sutbul Jjokgalbi in Hyangnam delivers generous portions of jjokgalbi, a distinctive side menu, and excellent parking convenience all in one — a highly satisfying rib restaurant in Hyangnam 2-jigu.
