Hyehwa board game café with Overcooked and mango bingsu: Hero Cafe

I was trying to figure out what to do with my boyfriend on a weekday evening, so we went to Hero Board Game Cafe in Daehangno. We go to board game cafés pretty often since the weather doesn't matter and they're great for spending time together, but Hero Board Game Cafe Daehangno Branch is set up with private rooms, which made it especially good for an indoor date. Honestly, we're regulars here haha, so let me introduce it as a spot for an indoor date in Hyehwa.

Where is Hero Board Game Cafe Daehangno Branch, and where do you park?

Hero Board Game Cafe Daehangno Branch is on the 2nd floor of a building on Daehangno 10-gil. It's close to Hyehwa Station, so it's easy to swing by after eating or hanging out in Daehangno haha. We parked at Korea National Open University~~~

We visited on a weekday evening. No one was at the counter when we first walked in, but after a moment a staff member came and showed us to our room.

Beyond board games: Nintendo, pool and arcade machines

There are arcade machines too, and the restroom is inside the building so it's easy to get to.

There's a Nintendo Switch too, and I played it today haha. Since I come to Hero Board Game Cafe often, I didn't get a separate how-to-use explanation, but first-timers really don't need to worry too much!! If you have questions about how a game works or anything while playing, the staff will kindly explain haha haha

There's a wide variety of games. There are group games too, so it seems like it'd be really fun to come with a bigger group and play ㅠㅠㅠ

Why the private rooms at Hero Board Game Cafe suit a date

A private room that's great for dates

One of the things I like most about Hero Board Game Cafe is the private room setup! It's good whether you come with a group of friends or, like us, as a couple on a date. Each room has a slightly different vibe — one even feels like a loft, cozy for hanging out. When the two of us pick a board game and just sit there comfortably, it somehow feels more fun than a café date haha. Above all, I loved that we could play just the two of us without worrying about anyone else around us haha haha

This time, instead of a board game, we played Overcooked, a Nintendo Switch series 🎮 Playing it as two people gets surprisingly chaotic — yelling at each other "the ingredients are here!" "wash the dishes quick!" — and time just flies by hahaha. Co-op games like this are perfect for casual gaming on a date!!! There's a really wide variety of board games too, so next time I want to pick a different one to try. If you don't know a game well, you can ask the staff for a recommendation, and there's also a system in the room to check how to play, so it's easy for first-time visitors too!

What we ordered on the room tablet and what two people spent

And you can't skip the food at a board game café! It was convenient to check the menu and order right from the tablet in the room. No need to walk to the counter when you get hungry mid-game — just order from the tablet haha haha

The menu is pretty varied. There's simple food like tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes), hot dogs, fries, and chicken, plus desserts like bingsu (shaved ice) and ice cream, all good for eating while gaming haha. There's fries, boneless fried chicken, various drinks, tteokbokki and more. They also sell alcohol, so you can order things like beer or a highball, and there are non-alcoholic and other drink options for people who don't drink!!

Chicken and fries! Freshly made, so we ate them warm haha. The fries were nicely salty, perfect for picking at haha

Mango bingsu at Hero Board Game Cafe: add the cheese

We ordered a highball and staff came over to check ID! And you must try the mango bingsu!! It's my favorite haha. I didn't expect much from bingsu at a board game café, but it was actually really good — I was surprised haha. My personal recommendation is to add cheese! Adding cheese to the mango bingsu lets you taste the sweet mango together with the salty, savory cheese, and it's so much better that way. I'll definitely order mango bingsu again next time haha

Is Hero Board Game Cafe a good indoor date course in Daehangno?

If the usual dinner-and-café date routine feels a bit predictable for a weekday evening, spending time playing games at a board game café like this is a pretty good option too~!!! Since there's a separate room, you can relax in your own space, and with Nintendo, arcade machines, and more besides board games, if you get tired of one game you can just move on to another haha haha. Plus there's the fun of ordering food and drinks from the tablet in between!!!

This would suit people like us looking for an indoor date spot with their boyfriend, or anyone looking for a relaxed place to hang out with friends. It's a nice stop after watching a play in Daehangno, or you could make the board game café the whole date itself!!!! Next time I'll try a different Nintendo game besides Overcooked, and I'm definitely getting the mango bingsu again haha.
