Daehangno board game café with chicken and fries: Hero Board Game Cafe

I really love board games, so when I heard there's a room-style place in Daehangno with a spacious interior and a huge variety of board games, food, and drinks, I had to check it out!

It's located in Hyehwa, Daehangno, so it's great to visit after a play date, and also perfect for indoor dates on days with bad weather.

How do you get there from Hyehwa Station?

From Exit 2 of Hyehwa Station on Line 4, go straight, then turn into the alley right there and you'll spot Hero Board Game Cafe. Enter through the door next to the building where you can see the theater box office, and there's an elevator inside. It's on the 2nd floor!

Inside: private rooms, a pool table and Nintendo

Walking inside, I felt overwhelmed by the sheer variety of board games! The interior is really spacious, so besides board games there's also pool, Nintendo, and arcade machines, meaning you could play to your heart's content in a cozy space.

How much does it cost? Rates and the weekday unlimited catch

The usage fee is ₩3,000 for the first hour, with ₩500 added per additional 10 minutes. If you visit on a weekday, you can enjoy unlimited time for ₩5,000, so definitely try the weekday unlimited rate!

Just keep in mind that the unlimited time plan requires prepayment — please note this before you go! (Of course I assumed mentioning the unlimited plan when paying afterward would apply automatically, but there was a mix-up and I ended up paying the base rate plus overtime fees,,,)

It's cozy and private, so you can comfortably enjoy games with friends. Beyond just the board games, it's great that you can laugh and chat with friends and hang out without worrying much about other people around!

Chicken and fries combo with iced Americano

Once seated, since one menu item per person is required, my partner and I ordered 2 iced Americanos and, since we figured we'd get hungry while gaming, a chicken-and-fries combo to fill up!

+ Also, there were videos on the tablet with detailed explanations for each game, which was really nice for trying new games without any pressure.

The visuals were insane,,, the fries seemed freshly fried to the point of still being really hot. There was so much of it and it was delicious. The chicken was boneless, karaage-style — bite-sized pieces coated in a sauce with just the right amount of sweetness. So good 🥰

It goes surprisingly well with the Americano haha. It's a board game café, but I was surprised that both the drinks and food were as good as a regular café's 🫢

Playing Halli Galli, Dobble and the skewer game

I love board games and have been to many board game cafés, but this is the first place I've seen with this much variety,,, since the interior is so spacious to begin with, there are a lot of customers, so they even keep multiple copies of the same game.

We started with the classic Halli Galli, then played Dobble, a skewer game, and other various board games! We ended up spending more time than expected on each game, so we didn't get to try many different types — next time I'm going to try to play more different games 😗
