Today I've got a review of Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal (쌈채솥뚜껑삼겹살), a spot near Guui Station haha. The prices are super cheap and the staff grill the meat for you, which made it even better!! And if you bring your own alcohol besides what the restaurant sells, corkage is free >_< Let me tell you all about it ✨

Storefront and drink promotion prices

Out front, Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal had its hours and a lunch-special kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) menu posted. Beer and soju were also on a really cheap deal. These days some places in Seoul charge ₩6,000 for a soju, so this is a steal — definitely worth checking out if you're into drinking!

Menu board and what the table ordered

The menu at Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal lets you choose between the iron lid or the charcoal brazier, with both individual dishes and set menus. We ordered two servings of iron-lid pork belly and one serving of pork skin. There was a nice variety of side dishes too.

Side dishes and the self-serve vegetable bar

Even the water was barley water, which I loved. They brought out the pork belly and pork skin, along with basic side dishes — onion, three kinds of kimchi, and gungchae (aster greens). All the banchan were solid, and if you want more, you can just use the self-serve bar.

Self-serve bar with bean sprouts, kimchi, and wrap greens

The self-serve bar had bean sprouts, kimchi, and lots of different wrap greens, which made it even better. We spotted it a bit late 🥺 and had already chosen the brazier, but with the iron lid you could also grill mushrooms or sweet pumpkin, which sounds great too!! They said the veggies at the self-serve bar come in fresh every dawn from the auction haha. There was also pepper and various sauces, great for sprinkling on frozen-fresh pork belly.

Pork belly grilled for you by the staff

At Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal, staff grill the pork belly for you, which made things really easy! The portion was bigger than expected too, and the meat was thick with an incredible color. We decided to come back next time for the frozen-fresh pork belly >_<

This is how they grill it for you. It was even better because they checked the doneness as they went haha.

After finishing the pork belly, you grill the pork skin to your liking. It had no gamey smell at all and was really tasty. Dipping it in curry powder makes it even better!

Doenjang stew to finish the meal

For our meal we ordered doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). It was packed with vegetables and had a clean, satisfying flavor haha.

With this many chunky ingredients inside, it went perfectly with rice! The stone pot was bigger than expected too, which I loved haha.

Inside the restaurant: a packed house at 8pm

Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal has seating both inside and along the outer area, so it seems great for groups, and also good for family visits! We came at 8pm and it was way more crowded than we expected. Aprons are hung up too, so they're easy to grab haha. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Guui Station, or a good spot in Jayang-dong, Seoul, I recommend Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal 🤍
