Low-sugar Songdo bakery for savory meal breads: mini burgers, Tomoru

In short

Tomoru Bakery (송도토모루베이커리) is the Songdo branch of Tomoru, a reduced-sugar bakery run by a certified master baker, in Songdo's first district in Yeonsu, Incheon, near Central Park and Triple Street. Skipping sweet dessert breads for savory meal breads, the writer chose a mini burger sandwich (7,500 won), basil tomato (5,800 won), olive ciabatta (4,700 won), pastry pizza bread (4,800 won) and three salt breads (3,000–3,500 won), and found the fillings generous and the prices reasonable. For healthy meal breads in Songdo, Tomoru Bakery deserves a place on your bakery tour.

This is my honest review of Tomoru Bakery (송도토모루베이커리), a bakery in Songdo District 1, near Songdo Central Park, Triple Street and Incheon National University Station.

Tomoru Bakery Songdo hours and amenities

Tomoru Bakery is open every day from 08:30 to 21:30, and it closes early once the bread sells out. It offers takeout, reservations, separate men's and women's restrooms, a waiting area, Wi-Fi, pet-friendly seating, easy-pay and parking.

This Songdo branch belongs to Tomoru, a bakery brand run by a master baker (a national-certified Master Baker). It uses organic flour and natural fresh cream, and sticks to a same-day baking, same-day selling rule. A healthy, tasty Songdo bakery!

Where is Tomoru Bakery, and how does free parking work?

The address is 23 Haedoji-ro 120beon-gil, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, Unit 101 on the 1st floor. Park in the building's underground car park (Acria 2) and tell the cashier your plate number when you pay, and parking is free. So if you parked underground, please remember to register your car :)

I parked underground and came up to the 1st floor. Tomoru Bakery sits on the corner, so it was easy to find!

How many seats does Tomoru Bakery have?

Besides one table inside, there are about 4 tables on the outdoor terrace. The terrace was my favorite part. On a nice day, or after a walk with your dog, it looks like a great spot for a light brunch of sandwiches and coffee~💛

A low-sugar bakery run by a master baker

The owner-chef is a Korean Master Baker (제과기능장) and has won national competitions. The many certificates and awards inside and outside the shop show his technical credibility and stubbornness about ingredients, so I felt I could trust the food even more~ After seeing this, a Master Baker title looks even more impressive to me.. 👍💚

The shop also has a sponsorship certificate, is a Green Umbrella sharing store, and is a certified low-sugar bakery! These days people work hard on blood sugar management to prevent diabetes and obesity, and Tomoru seems to be loved as a neighborhood bakery that makes and sells healthy bread with drastically reduced sugar💛 It avoids excess sugar and refined sweeteners, and has plenty of whole wheat and healthy breads made with natural sourdough starter, whole wheat and rye to keep sweetness down!!

Inside Tomoru Bakery: the room and the cakes

There is one table inside, and the space is roomy and neat, so I was in a good mood from the moment I walked in~ The sweet smell of baking bread was so tempting too!

Shall we line a tray with baking paper at the entrance and pick our bread with the tongs? Wet wipes were available too!

There is a nice range of cakes as well. They use animal cream, 100% natural fresh milk cream rather than vegetable cream, so the cakes tasted clean, light and rich at the same time. The cakes packed with seasonal fresh fruit are really good, so give them a try~

What breads does Tomoru Bakery sell?

There is a wide range, from plain, mild breads for meals, like dinner rolls, sandwich loaf, red bean bread, pizza bread and croissants, to sweet breads that go well with coffee, like apple pie, blueberry pie, panettone, butter scones, chocolate scones, egg tarts, Basque cheesecake and pie manju.

There were also timeless, long-loved classics like soft cinnamon castella, Manon cookies, Guri balls, baguettes, sweet pumpkin rice bread, royal soboro, domestic chestnut loaf, twisted donuts (kkwabaegi) and garlic bread, so I think everyone from kids to grandparents would be happy! Popular items carry a "best" sticker, so if you can't decide, pick the ones with the sticker😀

Tomoru Bakery gift sets and cookies

The gift sets are also neatly and elegantly prepared, so they look good for presents :)

Besides the 2-cookie and 3-cookie sets, there were single cookies, financiers, jam and champagne. With such a variety of cookies, Tomoru seems to be good at cookies too~

The chilled section and sandwiches

This is the refrigerated corner! Tomoru is famous for its sandwiches, and sure enough there were many kinds, plus fresh vegetable croquettes, white rolls and cream puffs. Fresh cream is sold too, so buying a baguette and dipping it in the cream sounds great😍

There were also finger-food bakes like nuts levain, Lotus cookies, sesame bites, chocolate rusks, healthy rusks, almond rusks, palmiers and brown sugar coyotes.

Signature breads: basil tomato and Kkamang-i

The must-eats at Tomoru are basil tomato, rye fig, corn campagne, olive ciabatta, mocha bread and Kkamang-i (까망이)! Kkamang-i is squid ink bread filled with cream cheese and walnuts. Maybe because you rarely see it at ordinary bakeries, it's said to be both a signature and a popular item!!

Besides the cucumber baguette, pollock roe and scallion baguette and plain salt bread, there are garlic cheese salt bread, bacon potato salt bread and pollock roe salt bread.

Types of salt bread at Tomoru Bakery

There were vanilla madeleines, strawberry soboro rolls, coconut cream cheese and more. The variety was so huge that I was happy the whole time I was choosing~💛

Tomoru Bakery drinks and the photo review event

Here's the drink menu. It's not just bread: coffee, non-coffee drinks, ades and teas at reasonable prices, so they pair well with bread~ The coffee is really cheap, right?💙

My savory meal bread picks and prices

I kept adding things to the tray and wow, it's a lot! Lately I prefer slightly salty meal breads to sweet dessert-style ones,, so I ended up with savory meal breads. I was so happy that Tomoru has so many of them💛

Mini burger sandwich (₩7,500)

Tomoru's mini burger sandwich is ₩7,500 and comes with 3 burgers. Personally I found it much healthier and tastier than burgers from burger joints! The bread was soft and chewy, and the filling of cheese, tomato, lettuce and a tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty)? was generous, so I was really satisfied. Three burgers at this price,, if you want a healthy yet tasty burger, do try the mini burger sandwich✨

Basil tomato bread (₩5,800)

Basil tomato is Tomoru's signature and popular item, at ₩5,800. I love it so much that I buy it every time I visit❤ The bread isn't hard but is crisp and chewy, and it's stuffed with basil pesto, sun-dried tomato and cream cheese, so I marvel at it every time~ It's good as is, but even better warmed briefly in an air fryer or oven, so I really recommend heating it!!

Olive ciabatta (₩4,700)

The olive ciabatta is ₩4,700 and has olives and shredded cheese inside! No sweetness or harsh sauce, just a mild, subtle flavor. The crust is thin and crisp, the inside moist and chewy, so it'd be good dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, or made into a sandwich with ham, arugula and tomato~ As bread from a Master Baker, the quality is high, which made it even more satisfying!

Pastry pizza bread (₩4,800)

The pastry pizza bread is ₩4,800: a crisp, moist pastry topped with sweet-and-salty pizza toppings. Unlike the usual soft, dense sausage pizza bread, this one maximizes crunch and rich flavor. It shatters with every bite, and the sweet-salty savory topping went together really well.

Three salt breads: bacon potato, garlic cheese and pollock roe

  • Bacon potato salt bread ₩3,500
  • Garlic cheese salt bread ₩3,000
  • Pollock roe salt bread ₩3,500

I was too busy eating the garlic cheese and pollock roe ones to take photos, but the bacon potato salt bread is a plain salt bread with fluffy potato filling and salty bacon added. One alone fills you up, and it felt like a classy cooked-dish bread~ To taste bread this nice for ₩3,500! It's packed with potato, and the bacon is a whole strip rather than chopped bits, so it was even tastier💙

Is Tomoru Bakery worth a stop on a Songdo bakery tour?

If you're looking for a proper bakery in Songdo, I strongly recommend Tomoru Bakery! As a Master Baker's shop, it uses organic ingredients and natural sourdough starter, so the bread felt gentle on the stomach and had a distinctive flavor~ From olive ciabatta to basil tomato, bacon potato salt bread and sandwiches, the breads were full of filling, and the dessert breads are varied too. If you want a Songdo bakery with good quality and reasonable prices, do stop by! I recommend it as a must-visit on a Songdo bakery tour💚
