A 5–10 minute walk from Hapjeong Station, brick-and-wood interior

Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is about a 5–10 minute walk from Hapjeong Station. From the exterior to the interior, everything is done in brick and wood tones, so pretty it felt like stepping into a small restaurant somewhere in Italy!

Inside, brick walls and wood tables create a warm atmosphere. Arched windows and photos hung on the walls give the feeling of stepping into a tiny European restaurant tucked in a Hongdae alley! The lighting is soft so it's comfortable to dine in, and the tables are spaced far apart, so it works well for dates or blind dates too. Great to come casually with friends, or for an anniversary or gathering!

Dough baked at 400°C in a Vesuvius volcanic stone oven
There's a huge wood-fired oven on one side of the restaurant! Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza uses an oven built with volcanic stone brought over from Mount Vesuvius in Italy, and bakes pizzas quickly at temperatures over 400°C!! That's why the edges of the dough come out browned and blistered while the inside stays chewy — a proper Neapolitan pizza style.
Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza menu: can you order half-and-half?

Here's what Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza's menu looks like. There's wood-fired pizza, pasta, salad, wine, and ade, and so many pizza flavors that it was hard to choose — but you can order half-and-half with two flavors of your choice, which was great for trying more than one!

We ordered the signature Manjo pizza and Croccante pizza as a half-and-half, plus the Gamberi Crema shrimp cream pasta.
Manjo and Croccante half-and-half: two flavors on one pizza

Getting to enjoy two flavors on one pizza is really really good!! One side is the Manjo pizza with tomato sauce, beef, onion, and paprika, and the other side is the Croccante pizza topped with shrimp and garlic chips!

Hahaha, look at the cheese stretching. Pizza really does taste better when the cheese stretches like this. True to a wood-fired pizza, the dough isn't thick or heavy — it's savory, light, and incredibly chewy! The tomato sauce's tang pairs nicely with the cheese's richness, so alternating bites never felt greasy and was just delicious.

Manjo pizza: beef topping that tastes like bulgogi pizza
The Manjo pizza has beef on top, so even one slice feels really filling! Being tomato-sauce based keeps it from being greasy, and the onion and paprika add balance so it never feels heavy. If you like the bulgogi pizza kind of flavor, Manjo pizza comes highly recommended! Seems like a flavor kids would love too!

Croccante at spice level 1: mild enough for a spice-shy eater?
The Croccante pizza has shrimp and garlic chip toppings, giving it a totally different feel from the Manjo pizza! The crispy aroma of the garlic chips, the savoriness of the shrimp, and the juicy texture of the cherry tomatoes are insane. I was glad we went with the half-and-half combo!! I was a bit worried about the spice level 1 since I can't handle spicy food, but rather than being uncomfortably hot, it just cuts through the pizza's richness a bit, so even I enjoyed it just fine!

Tasty pizza, ta-da 💕

Gamberi Crema shrimp cream pasta, ordered with penne
The Gamberi Crema shrimp cream pasta is a spicy cream sauce pasta with shrimp and mushrooms, and the oven's heat melts the cheese into it for even more flavor! You can choose the noodle from penne, spaghetti, or linguine, and I went with penne since the sauce clings to it well! The cream sauce coats the noodles smoothly while a subtle spiciness comes through afterward, so it never gets tiring, plus the shrimp were plump and the mushroom aroma made it a great match to eat alongside the pizza!
Who Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is best for

Eating Manjo and Croccante together as a half-and-half pizza let us enjoy both the heartiness of the meat topping and the crispy texture of shrimp and garlic on a single pie. Ordering just the pizza is already great, but adding the Gamberi Crema pasta makes it a much richer combo of wood-fired pizza and cream pasta!!
