Gamjatang restaurant in Nonhyeon-dong, Incheon: small size feeds two

The weather's been swinging a lot lately, and it gets chilly when the wind picks up~ That's exactly when I crave something hot and soupy, so I went out for gamjatang. Big portions, spicy and satisfying — here's my review of Cheongchun Bulppyeojjim Gamjatang Incheon Nonhyeon Branch, a Korean restaurant in Nonhyeon-dong, Incheon.

Where is Cheongchun Bulppyeojjim Gamjatang Incheon Nonhyeon Branch, and when is it open?

Cheongchun Bulppyeojjim Gamjatang Incheon Nonhyeon Branch is located at 1F, 44 Nongogae-ro 123beon-gil, Namdong-gu, Incheon, near Incheon Nonhyeon Station. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9:00-22:30, and Sunday 9:00-21:00, closed every Wednesday. For parking, you can use the dedicated lot behind the restaurant or paid street parking.

Not only gamjatang: steamed pork bones are on the menu too

As the name suggests, Cheongchun Bulppyeojjim Gamjatang sells not just gamjatang but also bone-based steamed dishes. They say they boil the bones fresh every day, and maybe that's why they have such a range of bone-based menu items, from gamjatang to bone steam to bone hangover soup.

The menu and the side dishes that come with it

The menu ranged from solo meal options to dishes ordered in small, medium, or large sizes. There was even a set for two that came with steamed egg and Kool Fizz, so you could order according to your group size or taste. We went with the hot menu item, the small Cheongchun Gamjatang (₩27,000)!

The basic side dishes were simple: seasoned chives, kkakdugi, and pickled napa cabbage — just the right amount to go with gamjatang! The pickled cabbage was especially good. I don't actually know its exact name lol, but its sweet-tangy flavor cut through the rich, spicy stew nicely and kept my mouth feeling fresh, so I kept reaching for it.

Disposable gloves ready on every table

On one side of the table, they had individually wrapped disposable gloves ready to go. Since this is a dish where you have to pick the meat off the bones with your hands, it makes sense, but I've never seen a restaurant with gloves like this before! It seems like a small thing, but that kind of thoughtfulness really made me happy haha.

Is the small Cheongchun Gamjatang enough for two?

Even though it's the small gamjatang, it was seriously generous. They said it comes with 5 bones, and with all the vegetables and big chunks of meat, it looked like a lot more than a typical restaurant's small size!

And I noticed Cheongchun Gamjatang has bean sprouts in it. This was my first time having gamjatang with bean sprouts, and the crunchy texture soaked up the broth nicely — it went surprisingly well together.

How spicy is the broth?

The broth is spicy and rich, but not in a burning-hot way. My husband can't handle spicy food well, but he could keep eating this without getting tired of it 👍 And there's seriously so much dried radish greens. No matter how much we ate, it just didn't seem to run out lol.

I ♡ enoki mushrooms

The potatoes were also nice and chunky. Sometimes gamjatang places give you thinly sliced potato, and I really hate that??!!!!!💢 Cheongchun Gamjatang doesn't seem to skimp on ingredients. Everything is genuinely generous.

The bones were big and chunky, and there was a lot of meat attached too. The meat was so tender it fell right off the bone, with none of that pork bone gaminess at all — it was really delicious!

Why the glass noodles and fried rice are worth adding

You absolutely must add glass noodle sarry or ramen noodle sarry to this broth (I'm putting my foot down). My husband is a noodle sarry person, so we added noodle sarry, and it turned out to be flat glass noodles. Regular glass noodles are good too, but these flat ones were even chewier. Let the broth reduce down a bit so it really soaks into the noodles~ that's the way to finish it off.

Haha, and of course the finale has to be fried rice, right? The menu says it's self-serve fried rice, but they actually made it for us. And it's seriously so good!!!!!! Isn't the whole reason you order gamjatang instead of just bone hangover soup so you can add noodles and finish with fried rice?? (Or is that just me lol.) Gamjatang fried rice is usually decent as a baseline anyway, but Cheongchun's has small bits of pickled radish mixed in, giving it a sweet note that made it several times better than other gamjatang places, I swear.

Who should visit this Nonhyeon-dong gamjatang restaurant?

If you're near Incheon Nonhyeon Station in Nonhyeon-dong, Incheon and craving Korean food for a family dinner or lunch with friends, I recommend Cheongchun Bulppyeojjim Gamjatang. Their steamed pork bones seem to be famous too, so I'll have to try that next time.
