Busan-style thick sauce at a Sinnonhyeon tteokbokki spot: Deokjane
In short
Deokjane Bangatgan is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) snack restaurant on Seochodae-ro 77-gil near Sinnonhyeon Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a weekday afternoon the writer ordered takeout tteokbokki for 6,000 won, Deokja gimbap for 4,500 won and bibim mandu (tangy-sweet fried dumplings) for 9,000 won, and found fat garaetteok rice cakes, thick fish cakes and sharp, sweet-sour dumplings. Potato salad is left out of takeout orders, but Deokjane Bangatgan is a satisfying pick for anyone who wants Busan-style thick sauce.

Deokjane Bangatgan is a garaetteok (cylindrical rice cake) tteokbokki restaurant on Seochodae-ro 77-gil near Sinnonhyeon Station. I love thick, Busan-style tteokbokki — so much that once, on a trip to Busan, I packed a ton of it and lugged it home with me, haha. On a hungry afternoon, craving that sauce that clings to every bite, I headed to Deokjane Bangatgan near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam!

Who is Deokjane Bangatgan right for?
- Anyone looking for thick, rich tteokbokki among Gangnam's tteokbokki spots
- Anyone who wants to try chewy handmade rice cake tteokbokki near Sinnonhyeon with potato salad
- Anyone looking for a Sinnonhyeon Station snack restaurant with crispy bibim mandu and gimbap
- Anyone near Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon looking for a solo meal or snack

Where is Deokjane Bangatgan near Sinnonhyeon Station, and what are the hours?
Deokjane Bangatgan is located at 62 Seochodae-ro 77-gil, L1F, Seocho-gu, Seoul, and is open 11:00–20:30. Break time is 14:30–16:00, last order is 20:00, and there's no parking.
Even on an off-peak weekday afternoon, the place was already packed with customers. The vibe is lively yet cozy, and you order at a kiosk.
There are sacks of rice piled up by the entrance — true to its name, 'bangatgan' means mill, and they mill the rice fresh every morning to make the garaetteok. That's probably why the rice cake itself has such standout chewiness and a nutty flavor.

What the writer ordered and what it cost
- Tteokbokki — ₩6,000
- Deokja gimbap — ₩4,500
- Bibim mandu — ₩9,000

This place is known for its tteokbokki, burdock gimbap, and mul-tteok (rice cake in broth), but I was craving bibim mandu, so I ordered bibim mandu, tteokbokki, and regular gimbap.
How thick is the sauce on Deokjane Bangatgan's garaetteok tteokbokki?
You could tell just by looking at the ₩6,000 tteokbokki how thick the sauce was. Four thick, freshly made garaetteok and two chunky fish cake sticks come well coated in a rich, clinging sauce — a thick, spicy-sweet mix.
The signature move here is a big scoop of mild potato salad plopped right on top of the tteokbokki. But if you're getting it to go, it's not included — apparently because it can spoil during transport, especially in summer. Sob.

I imagine the balance between the intense, sweet-savory sauce of Deokjane's Gangnam tteokbokki and the soft, mild potato salad would be really good — but since I ordered takeout, I couldn't try that combo.

Still, the chewiness of the garaetteok filled my mouth in the best way and I enjoyed it a lot. It's a flavor with real character, even among Gangnam's many tteokbokki options.
Instead of the usual thin fish cakes, they use thick ones here. Since the tteokbokki sauce is quite intense and concentrated, thin fish cakes might have felt too much — but the thick ones gave a nice chew and balanced the seasoning well.

Bibim mandu for 9,000 won: crispy dumplings with crunchy vegetables
The ₩9,000 bibim mandu (mixed dumplings) came thoughtfully packed separately in its own paper box. It's loaded with fresh cabbage, cucumber, and carrot, plus crunchy pickled radish and dried seaweed flakes for extra texture and flavor.
The sauce is just the right level of tangy-sweet, the kind that really wakes up your appetite. Wrapping the crispy fried dumplings with the tangy-sweet, crunchy vegetables made it clear why this is a signature menu item at this Gangnam tteokbokki and snack restaurant.

Deokja gimbap for 4,500 won: warm, freshly rolled and nutty
Deokjane Bangatgan's gimbap (seaweed rice roll) is rolled fresh the moment you order it — a cozy, homestyle version. It's mild, not intense, so it's good on its own, and also nice dipped lightly into the rich tteokbokki sauce from this Gangnam favorite.

Thick sauce and chewy garaetteok in perfect harmony — a delicious meal from a Gangnam snack restaurant. If you're looking for tteokbokki or a snack restaurant near Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon, consider adding this one to your list!
