Gwanghwamun gyukatsu restaurant for weekend family lunch: Hurato
In short
Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on basement level 1 of the Royal Building, right in front of Gwanghwamun Station Exit 1 in Jongno, Seoul. On a weekend lunch visit, one gyusteki set at 19,500 won and one gyukatsu at 19,500 won were ordered to share, and the gyukatsu tasted best after only a light sear on the tabletop brazier. Hurato Sikdang feels like a small Tokyo eatery, so it suits friends, couples and family meals alike.

Where is Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch?
Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch (후라토식당 경복궁 본점) is a gyukatsu (breaded, seared beef cutlet) specialty restaurant in the basement of the Royal Building right in front of Gwanghwamun Station Exit 1. It's a gyukatsu spot near Gyeongbokgung Station with a feel like walking into some small restaurant in Tokyo, Japan.

Getting there I was looking for somewhere to eat lunch near Gwanghwamun Station when I visited Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung branch, located on basement level 1 of the Royal Building right in front of Gwanghwamun Station Exit 1.
Hurato is a Japanese-style gyukatsu specialty restaurant — apparently Lee Young-ji shouted it out, and it's famously the place Corteis visited every weekend during their trainee days.

Hurato Sikdang got its start when three young people traveled to Tokyo, Japan together — they fell for the taste, fun and particular coziness that small Tokyo eateries gave off, and after a lot of thought, Hurato Sikdang was born. Now it's become a famous gyukatsu specialist not just in Gwanghwamun but all over Seoul.

Waiting and how to order at Hurato Sikdang
You can wait for a table at Hurato Sikdang Gyeongbokgung Main Branch through CATCH TABLE, and you can check the menu outside the store too, which is nice for deciding what to eat while you wait.

Inside the restaurant It had that cozy feeling of stepping into some small restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. I visited on a weekend, and I saw a lot of friends, couples, and families eating there too.

There's also a receipt review event you can join separately on Naver, Kakao Map and Google Maps, so it seemed like a good way to collect a variety of service menu items.

Ordering is done using the 'tag here' tag on the table — you just unlock your phone and hold it near the tag, and the order page connects right away, which made ordering simple and easy.

Hurato Sikdang menu and prices
The menu From Hurato Sikdang's signature gyukatsu to Japanese-style omurice and rice bowls like gyusteki donburi, there's a wide range of options.

Gyusteki set, 19,500 won
Gyusteki set, ₩19,500 A grilled beef set seared yakiniku-style on the outside and kept rare inside, so you get soft, juicy meat with a savory flavor.

The steak comes pre-cut into bite-sized pieces on top of the rice, and a soft-boiled egg comes alongside — you break it and eat it together with the rice and meat.

The steak itself was so tasty, grilled moist and well, and the sauce was sweet-savory, so it was really delicious! I'd also recommend ordering the gyukatsu and gyusteki donburi together and splitting one of each.

Gyukatsu, 19,500 won: how long to grill it on the brazier
Gyukatsu, ₩19,500 A rare-grilled cutlet you cook yourself on the tabletop brazier — Hurato Sikdang's own soft, aged gyukatsu that sets it apart.
The gyukatsu comes out with fresh beef coated thinly in breading and fried quickly at high heat, and you grill it as much as you like on the small brazier at your table.

When it first arrives it's almost entirely rare, so you can grill it to your own taste — for me, grilling it just lightly, rather than cooking it through a lot, tasted the best.

The outside was crispy and the inside was soft, so the texture was great — it was good with salt or wasabi, and dipping it in the sauce that came with it gave it a different flavor too. It's definitely a different experience from regular donkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), so I think anyone who likes gyukatsu will be satisfied.

Throughout September, there's also an event where paying with Naver Pay for orders over ₩20,000 gets you ₩5,000 in N points credited immediately.
Is Hurato Sikdang worth it? Final verdict
- A recommended Gwanghwamun restaurant for gyukatsu & gyusteki donburi
- A good date course to visit with friends or a partner near Gwanghwamun
- An atmosphere like stepping into a small restaurant in Tokyo, Japan
