Can I finally finish an English book this time?

Studying English is always at the top of my New Year’s resolutions, but haven’t we all opened an original English book and stopped after the first few pages? Haha. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve declared, “This year, I’m definitely reading one English book all the way through!” hahaha. So this time, instead of getting greedy from the start, I looked for a book I could genuinely finish—and that’s how I found Dangye English The Little Prince.

Reading the same story from Level 1 to 5

The point of this book is very simple! Rather than throwing you straight into an unfamiliar original text, it lets you read the same content over five stages, from Level 1 to Level 5, with the difficulty gradually increasing.

Even if you are not confident with English reading, it naturally makes you think, “I could probably read this.” Another plus was that the story is The Little Prince, which we know so well, so there is no need to work out the plot from scratch. Since it is already familiar, even when an unknown word comes up, you can roughly picture the scene—so there is much less stopping to look things up in a dictionary.

The book uses the 27 chapters of the original The Little Prince as its basis, then divides each chapter again into five levels. In other words, the number of chapters is almost the same as in the original, so you meet the chapter you read in Level 1 again in Levels 2, 3, and 4—upgrading the same content with increasingly rich expressions.

Who are Levels 1 and 2 good for?

Levels 1 and 2 of Dangye English The Little Prince are easy to read without pressure, so they seem great for people returning to English study after a long break, or even upper-elementary-school children to read together.

With short sentences and mostly easy words, it gives you that small success of thinking, “Oh, I’m reading an English book too.” Confidence-building mode: ON.

What was interesting was seeing how the same expressions change at each level! Instead of making you force-memorize one difficult word, the word choices become a little more detailed and varied as the level rises. It felt like vocabulary was naturally building up in context, rather than in a word list.

Study guidance and level-by-level audio

The front of the book also has helpful study guidance. It explains how to use each level, what order to read in, and how to use it with listening, so there is no need to wonder, “How should I use this book?” You simply follow the guide. That makes it less daunting even for English-study beginners, and another thing I liked was that this system is not just a simple idea—it is said to have gone through four years of research and development and received a Korean patent.

Because the English reading is designed in stages, you can also adjust the pace to suit your own speed and level.

My challenge to finish it, starting at Level 1

I read it steadily from Level 1. At first I wondered, “Is this too easy?” But once I got going, it was actually more fun, haha. After getting through one chapter, then two, I felt proud to realize I had already read quite a lot.

When I think of an English original, I usually picture a thick book, dense print, and a dictionary as a must-have beside me. Dangye English The Little Prince takes away a great deal of that pressure.

The experience of feeling that I could read without a dictionary was a huge motivator for studying English. I also loved that the QR code gives you level-specific audio, so you can learn by looking + reading + listening all at once! You can use it for reading practice first, then later close your eyes and listen only to get used to pronunciation and rhythm. I honestly want to recommend Dangye English The Little Prince to perpetual English beginners, anyone whose attempt to read original books has always lasted only three days, and anyone looking for an English book to read with their child~
