In short
Baengni Gomtang is a Korean restaurant in Hongdae, Mapo, Seoul, serving Hanwoo beef gomtang and other beef dishes. I ordered the special gomtang and Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap for a deep yet clean broth, generous beef, and a refreshing mix of raw beef, rice, and vegetables. A great Korean restaurant in Hongdae, “Baengni Gomtang” Special gomtang and Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap A hearty Korean meal recommendation! 🍚
Baengni Gomtang (백리곰탕) is a great place to visit in Hongdae when you want warm, filling Korean food rather than something intensely seasoned! From the name alone, it felt like a gomtang specialist, and it really does offer a range of Hanwoo beef dishes, including beef gomtang, Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap, Hanwoo yukhoe, tteokgalbi, and Hanwoo beef hot pot.

Inside the Restaurant and the Meaning Behind the Name

What does Baengni Gomtang mean? Apparently, it carries the meaning, “a bowl you think about even after traveling a hundred ri”! It really conveyed the feeling that they want to make a proper meal memorable enough to seek out from afar~
Ordering Special Gomtang and Hanwoo Yukhoe Bibimbap
Menu

Warm Korean food in Hongdae! When you think of Hongdae, pasta, grilled meat, and bars usually come to mind first, but sometimes you just crave Korean food with hot soup and rice, right? I ordered the special gomtang and Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap!
Table Setting

Besides gomtang and yukhoe bibimbap, there are plenty of choices, including Hanwoo yukhoe, tteokgalbi, and Hanwoo beef hot pot, so you can pick according to your taste. If you visit as a group, it would be nice to add a hot pot, yukhoe, or tteokgalbi and enjoy a variety of Hanwoo dishes.
Special Gomtang Broth and Generous Hanwoo Beef

First, the special gomtang arrived piping hot in a ttukbaegi (Korean earthenware pot), and it looked filling just at a glance.
I think broth is the most important part of gomtang, and Baengni Gomtang’s was defined by a deep, clean flavor that tasted as though it had been simmered for a long time.

Rather than a strongly seasoned, intense broth, it is the kind that lets you comfortably enjoy the savory beef flavor and richness of the soup~

The special gomtang was generous with the meat, too! True to its name, it contained plenty of Hanwoo beef, making it great with rice. Scooping up tender beef from the warm broth and having it with spoonfuls of rice made the meal feel complete even without many side dishes!
The ginseng sprouts on top of the gomtang especially caught my eye. Adding ginseng sprouts to a bowl of gomtang is Baengni Gomtang’s special touch! It made what could have been an ordinary bowl of gomtang feel a little more special.
The Combination with Hanwoo Yukhoe Bibimbap

And then there was the Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (rice mixed with seasoned raw beef)! If gomtang alone feels a little incomplete, or if you love Hanwoo beef, this is a menu item worth ordering alongside it. (Recommended)

Fresh Hanwoo yukhoe sat on top of rice and vegetables, and the colors were so pretty that it was great for photos, too!
When you mix the yukhoe with the rice and vegetables, the tender texture and nutty flavor of the Hanwoo raw beef come together beautifully. With the vegetables in the mix, it was cleaner and fresher than I expected!

Ordering the warm special gomtang together with bibimbap topped with cold yukhoe made for such a good combination~ Instead of having just one dish, you get to enjoy contrasting flavors, so if two of you visit, I hope you order the gomtang and yukhoe bibimbap to share!

And finally, snap! A receipt photo 📷!! The piping-hot special gomtang filled me up, while the Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap let me enjoy another style of Hanwoo dish, so it was a satisfying meal overall! If you are looking for a good Korean restaurant, a gomtang spot, or a filling place for lunch or dinner in Hongdae, I would recommend Baengni Gomtang.
Next time, I would like to try the tteokgalbi or Hanwoo beef hot pot as well as the special gomtang and Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap! If you are looking for a comforting, filling Korean meal in Hongdae, try a warm bowl of gomtang at Baengni Gomtang—the bowl you will think about even after traveling a hundred ri!
