Yeonnam-dong bakery: 3 savoury breads ordered at the counter, Mandong
In short
Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch is a bakery in Yeonnam-dong, Seodaemun, Seoul, that bakes fresh bread every day and is open 11:00-21:00. Preferring plain, savoury breads, the writer chose cucumber baguette, garlic baguette and fig campagne, and at Mandong Jegwa baguettes are not picked up by hand but ordered at the counter when you pay. The bright cucumber baguette and the creamy garlic sauce on the garlic baguette were the two standouts.

Inside Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch

Mandong Jegwa is known for baking fresh bread every day and focusing on the true taste of bread. In particular, its garlic baguette with a deep garlic flavor is famous, and many people include it on their Yeonnam-dong bakery-hopping route.
Choosing bread and the free tasting at Mandong Jegwa

Walking into the bakery, there are so many kinds of bread that it's hard to know where to start! I usually prefer plain breads like baguettes or campagne, so this time I picked out three items.

That fresh-baked, nutty smell hits you and it's hard to just walk past. I think the smell of bread when you walk into a bakery is honestly the most exciting part :)

While you're picking, the staff also cut small pieces of a few breads for tasting to help you decide!
Baguettes: order them at the counter, not with the tongs

Personally, I really love cucumber baguette 🥒! This time I picked out my favorites — cucumber baguette, garlic baguette and fig campagne 🥖
For baguettes and similar items, you tell the counter staff when you pay! (They're not self-served.)
Cucumber baguette: bright, light and savoury
🥒 Cucumber baguette — a cucumber baguette is a bit unusual, right? It combines the plain, chewy texture typical of a baguette with cucumber, giving it a different charm from a regular baguette! Thanks to the fresh cucumber, it's clean and not heavy overall, hehe.

I'd recommend this to anyone who likes plain bread but wants something a little more special than a regular baguette.
Garlic baguette, the signature bread at Mandong Jegwa

🧄 Mandong Jegwa's signature menu, the garlic baguette! You can't skip this one if you're here — as the signature item, its rich garlic flavor is the main appeal :)

The outside keeps that crispy baguette texture while the inside is relatively moist, giving a nutty flavor the more you chew. On top of that, the creamy garlic sauce makes the flavor even deeper!
Fig campagne and its gentle sweetness

🖤 Fig campagne — last but not least, one of my absolute favorites :) The plain, savory flavor typical of campagne (rustic country bread) gets fig added in, making it perfect for eating slowly, piece by piece.

With the fig inside, there's a gentle sweetness that pairs really well with the plain bread, hehe.
Pickup reservations and the verdict on Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch
Mandong Jegwa is genuinely worth recommending since you can get freshly baked bread every day. It's great for taking a walk around Yeonnam-dong, grabbing some bread to go, and enjoying it with coffee at home — and also good for picking a variety to share with family or friends!

They also offer a pickup reservation service, handy if you want to have your bread ready ahead of time. If you want the fun of discovering good bread in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch. 🥖✨
