Gangneung café with charging seats and French reserve sandwich: Baegya

During our Gangneung trip we saw plenty of ocean, but never really had time to sit and just look at it.

So while looking for a Gyeongpodae café near our lodging, we found Baegya Coffee — spacious enough to bring a baby, with bread and a sea view at the same time.

Bottom line first: this felt like a place we could actually settle in and rest for a while.

Where is Baegya Coffee, and is there parking?

Baegya Coffee is a café at 607 Haean-ro, Gangneung, right in front of Sageunjin Beach, and it has its own parking lot, so we could park comfortably the moment we arrived. Traveling with a baby, parking is the first thing you check when picking a café.

With a lot of luggage and a baby to carry around, inconvenient parking makes us hesitate no matter how pretty a place looks.

It was also a good spot for anyone browsing around Gyeongpodae looking for a Sageunjin Beach café, like us.

It felt more like a place to rest and watch the sea than somewhere you just grab a coffee and leave.

Inside Baegya Coffee: sea views from all three floors

The inside of Baegya Coffee was spread across three floors and much bigger than expected, and you could see the ocean from every floor, so you didn't have to grab a window seat to enjoy the ocean view. Just walking in, the sheer size of the space put me at ease.

With a baby, we've sometimes felt self-conscious about strollers or bags in cramped cafés, but Baegya Coffee had generous seat spacing and enough space overall to settle in comfortably.

And honestly, here the sea catches your eye first. You could enjoy the ocean view from any floor without needing a window seat.

The whole reason I wanted a Gangneung ocean-view café was to sit and watch the sea, and that part was fully satisfied.

There was a separate outdoor area too, and having coffee in the sea breeze there seemed like it would be really nice. But the outdoor area is a no-kids zone, so we couldn't use it. Still, the sea view from indoors was more than enough, so it wasn't a big letdown.

I also thought it was a thoughtful touch that you could charge your phone here. We'd taken a lot of photos and done a lot of searching while traveling, so our battery was running low — being able to charge while resting with a coffee was great. Nice touch!!👍👍

There's a baby chair too, so no worries visiting with a baby, haha (though ours was asleep so we didn't get to use it... lol).

What to order: French reserve sandwich and condensed milk bread

What we picked at Baegya Coffee were the French reserve sandwich and condensed milk bread — both marked as best sellers — along with an iced Americano. Honestly, we'd already eaten a meal so we weren't that hungry.

But once we saw the bread display case, it was hard to just walk past. There were so many kinds, and they all looked delicious, so we lingered there a good while deciding.

There was also a spot to warm up your bread, and you could pack leftover bread yourself at a self-packing station. Having to ask staff for little things like this can feel awkward, so it was nice that every floor had its own setup for it 💖

The elevator even had a little shelf to hold your ordered bread and coffee.

I could see why the sandwich is the best-seller. 🤩👍 The ingredients tasted fresh, and the sweet-and-salty balance was so good that it disappeared faster than I expected.

The condensed milk bread wasn't overly sweet either — just a gentle sweetness that went really well with the Americano.

It was almost a shame that we'd already eaten right before coming. ㅠㅠ Next time I want to come with an empty stomach on purpose and try a few more kinds of bread, haha.

How long is the weekday wait at Baegya Coffee?

We visited on a weekday and got in right away with no wait. The place is so spacious with so many seats that choosing a table wasn't difficult at all.

There might be more travelers on weekends, but from what I felt on my visit, it doesn't have the structure of a typical small café where you keep waiting because there are only a few seats. Still, if you specifically want a popular seat with a direct sea view, it's probably best to avoid peak hours.

Is Baegya Coffee worth it with a baby in Gangneung?

When you come to Gangneung, you always end up looking for a café with an ocean view at least once. In the past, I've gone somewhere just for the view and ended up rushing through coffee because the space was too cramped or too crowded.

This time, traveling with a baby, what I wanted most was somewhere spacious and comfortable, and Baegya Coffee delivered on exactly that.

Parking was easy, we didn't have to worry about other people's stares even with a baby in tow, and the bread was delicious too, so we stayed longer than expected. If you're looking for a Gangneung ocean-view café that also happens to have great bakery items, it's worth a visit.

The location also works well for travelers looking for a Sageunjin Beach café. On my next trip to Gangneung, if I go looking for a Gyeongpodae café again, I plan to stop by Baegya Coffee once more and pick out the breads I missed this time. ^^
