Dongtan CGV dinner: spicy mushroom kalguksu set for two, Deungchon
In short
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Gran Passage Green Zone, facing Dongtan Lake Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday at 8pm, the writer and a friend ordered the spicy mushroom kalguksu set for two (30,000 won) with minari (water dropwort) and mung bean sprouts, eating the full course of shabu beef, noodles, dumplings and fried rice. Deungchon works well before or after a movie at the CGV in the same building or a walk around the lake park, and the basement car park is free for 3 hours.

It got a bit chilly in the evening, and suddenly all I wanted was some hot, steaming broth 🤤 It reminded me of Deungchon, the place my family used to go to all the time when I was little — so I finally made it back with a friend, to the branch famous as a Dongtan shabu-shabu spot: Deungchon Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch!
It's right in the Gran Passage building in front of Dongtan Lake Park, so it's super accessible, and they even give you 3 hours of free parking, so honestly it was such an easy, comfortable meal.

What the dining room is like at 8pm on a weekday, with CGV moviegoers
Even though I visited around 8pm on a weekday, the place was pretty full! There were a lot of families eating out with kids, and since there's a CGV in the same building, I also saw people grabbing a hearty meal before or after a movie.

The interior is spacious and super clean, so it felt like a great spot for group gatherings or work dinners too 👍

If you've been to Gran Passage before, you know the building is bigger than you'd expect?! Just remember 'Green Zone, 2nd floor' and you'll find it without getting lost!

And when you pay after your meal, just tell the counter and they'll apply up to 3 hours of free parking, so it's perfect for stuffing yourself and then taking a walk around the lake park — great for a lunch or dinner date at Dongtan Lake Park 😉

Menu and prices: the 30,000 won full course for two
- Basic mushroom kalguksu (spicy/clear/perilla): ₩10,000 per person (shabu beef sold separately, minimum 2 people)
- Shabu kalguksu set (spicy/clear/perilla): mushroom shabu hot pot + shabu beef (180g) + kalguksu + fried rice + dumpling noodles
- Algoni (fish roe) spicy kalguksu set: mushroom shabu hot pot + algoni (350g) + kalguksu + fried rice + dumpling noodles
- Extra shabu beef (180g) / algoni (350g): ₩10,000
- Extra vegetables (minari + mushroom) / fried rice / dumpling noodles etc.: ₩3,000–4,000 range

When I think about prices at other Deungchon branches or eating out in general these days, it's honestly scary how expensive things have gotten,, but here you can get the full course — beef all the way to fried rice — for ₩30,000 for two, so this really might be the best value shabu-shabu in Dongtan?!🥺

The fresh geotjeori (unfermented kimchi) made daily
The second the kimchi arrived, just looking at the color I knew it had to be good 😳❤️🔥 They apparently make it fresh every day with domestic napa cabbage and chili flakes — that spicy, slightly bossam-craving-inducing geotjeori you know and love? It goes so well with kalguksu!

Spicy mushroom kalguksu for two with minari and bean sprouts
We ordered the spicy mushroom kalguksu for two with the minari + bean sprout combo.

Once it's bubbling away, turn the heat down a bit, swish the shabu beef through, dip it deep into the wasabi soy sauce, and it's instant heaven ✨

Even though the meat is frozen, it had zero gamey smell and was really tender.
There was so much bean sprout and minari packed in that the aroma was insane — and the minari wasn't tough at all, it was soft, which honestly moved me 🥹
On top of that there were big chunky potato pieces, so you keep finding more and more as you eat. Fluffy and soft in the best way!
There was a huge amount of mushroom too, so alternating a bite of meat and a bite of mushroom was pure textural genius ☺️
The spicy broth was sharp and hot with a strong garlic kick — the moment I took the first spoonful, I could immediately tell it would go perfectly with soju.
There were also 2 dumplings served with the kalguksu noodles, soaked in that spicy broth — such a nice extra treat.

When to drop the kalguksu noodles into the broth
Once you've properly finished off the vegetables and meat, the broth gets deeply infused with meaty flavor — that's the moment to drop in the kalguksu noodles!

Chewy noodles soaked in that now-richer broth, topped with that delicious geotjeori from earlier — it warms you right up and blows all your stress away 🔥

Finishing with fried rice cooked in the kitchen
Even if you feel like you're about to burst, you know it's basically a crime to leave Deungchon without ordering the fried rice, right?!

The fried rice is cooked to order by the owner in the kitchen and comes out perfectly fluffy — egg fried rice made by someone else really is the best fried rice in the world 🥰

Soak it up with the leftover spicy broth and any missing seasoning gets perfectly rounded out — you could eat it forever.
Can you reserve or order takeout? Is Deungchon good with kids?
Q. Can I make a reservation in advance, or get takeout?
Yes! Reservations are definitely available, and you can also get takeout/delivery through Baemin or Coupang Eats. Good to know if you'd rather enjoy it comfortably at home.
Q. Is it okay to bring a kid who can't handle spicy food?
Of course! Besides the spicy version, there are separate clear mushroom kalguksu and perilla options, so I saw a lot of families with kids there too.
It had been a while since my last visit, and I was so happy that it tasted exactly like I remembered — and honestly great value for the quality, so I left completely satisfied with this Dongtan shabu-shabu favorite, Deungchon Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch. Even writing this now, I'm already craving that spicy broth and fried rice again! Highly recommend when you're craving shabu-shabu 🙇♀️
