Spicy jokbal and tray noodles for three in Bupyeong: Jangmo Jokbal

In short

Jangmo Jokbal Bupyeong Market Station Branch is a jokbal (braised pig's trotter) restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Bupyeong Market Station in Incheon. Three of us ordered the front-leg half-and-half (original plus spicy jokbal) with jjaengban guksu (cold noodles served on a tray) and left full on tender front-leg meat and icy broth. For anyone weak with chili, the spicy jokbal builds heat toward the end but stays manageable, so the half-and-half is the easy way to try both flavors in one sitting.

Here's my review after eating half-and-half jokbal (original + spicy jokbal) at Jangmo Jokbal, a famous jokbal (pig's trotter) restaurant in Bupyeong. I'd heard it was delicious many times before, so I finally went to check it out this time. Let's get right into the review~

What we ordered: front-leg half-and-half jokbal and jjaengban guksu

Origin label board showing domestic Korean ingredients

There were three of us, so we ordered the front-leg half-and-half (original + spicy jokbal) and jjaengban guksu. There's a good variety of jokbal types too — fire jokbal, garlic jokbal, cold jokbal salad, barbecue jokbal — so it's fun to pick based on your taste. Looking at the origin labels next to the menu, everything is made with domestic Korean ingredients, which made it even more trustworthy.

Inside Jangmo Jokbal: table count and the weeknight wait

Interior of Jangmo Jokbal with about 6 tables

The place isn't huge — there were about 6 tables. We visited on a weekday evening and got seated right away with no wait. Still, 5 tables including ours were eating at the same time, so I imagine there could be a wait on weekend evenings.

Basic side dishes served at the table
Fresh radish kimchi side dish
Seasoned chives side dish

They set us up with the basic side dishes first. The radish kimchi and seasoned chives were fresh and tasty.

Individually wrapped utensils
500ml PET bottle of cola

The utensils were individually wrapped, which felt clean and nice. The cola also came as a 500ml PET bottle instead of the stubby can, so we didn't run out — such a treat. Total jackpot!

How the half-and-half jokbal tastes: original vs. spicy

A full spread of front-leg half-and-half jokbal

Here's the half-and-half jokbal (original + spicy) we ordered. Since it's front-leg meat, it was really tender and soft, and delicious. Jangmo Jokbal boils the jokbal — 100% domestic — and sells it the same day, so you get fresh meat with no gamey smell.

Original jokbal topped with salted shrimp
Spicy jokbal coated in sauce

The original jokbal was great even just topped with salted shrimp, and just as good wrapped with radish kimchi. I also tried the spicy jokbal — as a spice wimp, the first bite was mild, but it got quite spicy toward the end, though not overwhelmingly so. If you like spicy food, it hits a pleasantly hot level.

Jjaengban guksu: icy broth and peanut powder

Jjaengban guksu topped with peanut powder

They brought out jjaengban guksu (cold noodles served on a tray) at the same time. It came topped with peanut powder, which made it nuttier and more delicious. The broth also arrived with a layer of ice, so it was nice and refreshing to eat.

Jjaengban guksu mixed by hand with plastic gloves

They gave us plastic gloves so we could mix it by hand, and I mixed it thoroughly. The mak guksu (buckwheat noodles) was genuinely refreshing, nutty, and delicious — great alongside the jokbal, and just as good eaten on its own, so I slurped it down like I was under a spell. There were three of us, but with the jjaengban guksu added on top, the portion was so generous we all left completely full.

Is Jangmo Jokbal worth a trip to Bupyeong?

If you're looking for a great jokbal restaurant near Bupyeong Market Station, I recommend Jangmo Jokbal. Going with front-leg meat got me extra tender jokbal. If you prefer something leaner, ordering back-leg might be the way to go. This time we tried half original + half spicy to enjoy two flavors at once, and having so many jokbal varieties to choose from made it even better. I'm curious about the garlic jokbal, cold jokbal salad, and barbecue jokbal too, so I think I'll be back to try the other varieties next time.
