Hapjeong bar open till 4am for beef tendon soup: Bako Jumak

I ended up drinking in Hapjeong, and since I'd already eaten a big first round, for round two I wanted a good-value bar with simple snacks and a decent variety of options, haha. And right in front of me — a Hapjeong bar, Bako Jumak (바코주막)!

The interior was huge too, so it looked perfect for a group visit or even a company dinner. Let me introduce it properly!

How big is the menu at Bako Jumak?

This is the menu board set up outside the shop — even at a glance the variety looks huge, right? Bako Jumak in Hapjeong seemed to focus mostly on Korean food, and since my friend and I are both Korean-food lovers, that sealed it for us 🫢

Room for group dinners: inside Bako Jumak and its table spacing

I really liked that the tables at Bako Jumak in Hapjeong weren't crammed too close together. Maybe it's just age catching up with me, but when tables are too close during drinks I can't hear anyone talk over the next table 🥲 Bako Jumak felt spacious overall, and I loved that!

The space is big enough that pushing tables together for a group wouldn't be a problem at all. So many bars these days go for a cozy, cramped look, right? A wide-open place like this is a lifesaver for group bookings..🌟

The basic side snack: popped corn kernels, haha. When the free bar snack is something crunchy like this, it's great because your mouth doesn't get bored while waiting for the food to come out 🫶🏻 Though I couldn't stop my hands from reaching for it the whole time before the dishes arrived..

What we drank: Hanmac Extra Creamy and a 7,000-won peach highball

Apparently Bako Jumak in Hapjeong sells Hanmac Extra Creamy, said to be the smoothest draft beer in Korea! If you're a beer person, keep that in mind. I'm a beer person myself and was tempted to order it too, but oddly enough I was craving a highball that day, so I went with highballs instead, haha.

Sugar tomato, 8,000 won: how much you actually get

The side dish, sugar tomato, came out first. It's ₩8,000, and honestly, don't they give you a ton of tomatoes?? And then my soju-loving friend's soju, plus the peach highball (₩7,000) I ordered!

And the main dish: Korean beef tendon stew (스지탕), lol. I came wanting something simple, but I can never resist a tendon stew.. and it was only ₩25,000. 🫢 The price was so kind too. How could I not order it?! How could I not eat it 😵

A clear broth loaded with tendon and just a touch of spice — the drinks just kept flowing 🥂 But the broth was spicy enough that it almost felt like I was curing a hangover while still drinking, lol.

They put in so much tendon that no matter how much I fished out, more kept appearing, haha. Just when I thought we'd finished it all.. more showed up...!

Tender tendon paired with soju.. my friend said the soju was going down way too smoothly and ended up drinking a bit too much^^?

Somehow we ended up overeating 🫣 But between bites of tendon, having the sweet tomato to cool down? My stomach went warm, then cold.. spicy, then sweet, and it all just made me want to eat more. If you're visiting for round two, definitely order the sugar tomato, seriously. I know, sugar-coated tomato sounds like it shouldn't taste good, but..🍅

Is Bako Jumak worth it for round two in Hapjeong?

I've seen a lot of bars with huge menus that end up tasting bad or feeling careless, but Bako Jumak in Hapjeong, as you can see from the photos, gives really generous portions (with prices going crazy these days, so many places quietly shrink portions..!), has a huge interior that's genuinely great for groups (which is really hard to find), wide table spacing that makes conversation so much easier, and interior design that actually feels like a proper Korean tavern 🫶🏻 It checks every box and still tastes great!
