While looking for a café in Yeonnam-dong, I ended up visiting Noknok (녹녹) this time.

Located on Seongmisan-ro, Noknok is a fairly large café spread across the 1st and 2nd floors. Rather than just a spot to grab a quick coffee, it felt like a place where you could sit comfortably and chat, or bring a laptop and work — which I really liked.

Noknok basics: address, hours, parking and seating

📍 Noknok basics 📌 Address – 139 Seongmisan-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul ⏰ Hours – Daily 08:30–23:30 🚗 Parking – Available! Weekdays after 17:30, and weekends. You can use the parking space in front of the building, though parking right by the entrance is difficult :) 🪑 Seating – Spread over two floors with plenty of seats. The 1st floor has a big sofa for comfort, the 2nd floor is quiet and clean, good for anything from group meetups to studying.

There was also a subtly funny sign right at the entrance — 'power air conditioning.' On a hot day like this, that kind of confident phrasing was oddly welcome. Walking in, I felt an instant sense of 'I might actually survive' rather than just 'oh, I'm in a café.'

Noknok's first floor for groups, second floor for quiet

The 1st floor of Noknok has a big sofa in the middle, giving the whole space a relaxed, comfortable feel. The sofa is big enough to rest on for a while, and also good for sitting around with friends and chatting!

Head up to the 2nd floor, though, and the mood changes a bit. It's overall clean and quiet, which looked great for reading a book or opening up a laptop to work. I liked that within one space, you could choose your seat depending on what you came to do.

When visiting with a group of friends, the 1st floor is great for comfortable chatting; when you want to work or study quietly alone, heading up to the 2nd floor seems perfect. In fact, Noknok is known for its group seating and study-friendly atmosphere, and the bakery and dessert selection is pretty extensive too.

What we ordered at Noknok: fig mugwort chiffon sando, matcha latte, iced americano

That day I ordered

  • Fig mugwort chiffon sando
  • Noknok matcha latte
  • Iced americano

— all three of these.

Choosing your americano beans: nutty, acidic or decaf

One thing I especially liked about the iced americano was being able to choose the beans. Nutty beans, acidic beans, or even decaf — you could pick according to your taste.

Personally, I love it when a café offers a bean choice for the americano, since I can match it to whatever dessert or mood I'm having that day, and Noknok had that option too.

What does Noknok's fig mugwort chiffon sando taste like?

The one I was most curious about was the fig chiffon sando! Turns out its full name is fig mugwort chiffon sando (무화과 쑥 쉬폰산도). At first I got confused whether it was green tea or mugwort — it was mugwort. Chiffon cake itself is fluffy and soft, and paired with sweet fig it made for a really great combination.

The fig was sweeter and tastier than expected, giving off a pleasantly gentle sweetness with the first bite, and the faint aroma of mugwort meant it wasn't just a sweet dessert but a fragrant one too, which I really liked. The fluffy chiffon, soft cream, and sweet fig together made for great texture as well. If you like figs, this one is worth trying at least once.

Noknok matcha latte paired with dessert

We also ordered the Noknok matcha latte (녹녹말차라떼). If you like matcha drinks, the name alone might catch your curiosity, and it went well with the dessert that day. Paired with the fig mugwort chiffon sando, both the dessert and the drink had their own distinct aromas that worked nicely together.

Noknok's bakery counter: what to try next time

Noknok has such a solid bakery lineup that it would be a shame to just get a drink and leave. There's a wide variety of bread to browse, and there was one item I was especially curious about this time: the loaded topping soft milk bread (토핑 와르르 쫀득식빵)!

The name alone made it sound delicious, so it caught my eye, but since I'd already picked the fig mugwort chiffon sando that day, I saved it for next time. I'll definitely have to try the loaded topping soft milk bread on my next visit.

Takeout americano at Noknok for ₩1,900

What I really liked was the price — the americano is ₩1,900 for takeout. These days, even a basic coffee at a café can cost a fair amount, so having Noknok's dine-in price already be reasonable, plus a ₩1,900 takeout option... the price really made me go, what is this?!

The coffee is cheap, and on top of that you can choose nutty, acidic, or decaf beans, which made it even better. Sitting and enjoying it in-store is nice, but it's also just the right price to grab a takeout cup while wandering around Yeonnam-dong — a pretty big advantage for Noknok.

Who Noknok in Yeonnam-dong suits best

If you're looking for a café in Yeonnam-dong where you can comfortably settle in for a while, Noknok was solid. The 1st floor has a big, comfortable sofa area great for group visits and chatting with friends, while the 2nd floor is quiet and clean, good for working alone or spending time calmly.

I also liked that you can choose your coffee beans — nutty, acidic, or decaf — to match your taste, and the wide bakery selection meant there was plenty to pick alongside a drink.

This time I had the fig mugwort chiffon sando, and the sweet fig paired well with the fluffy mugwort chiffon — it was delicious. Next time I'd like to try the loaded topping soft milk bread I was curious about. Overall, this was a Yeonnam-dong bakery café good for meetups, dates, and studying alike :)
