Yangyang café with self-drive boats: Cafe Dunchi
In short
Cafe Dunchi is a café overlooking the Namdaecheon River in Yangyang, Gangwon, with a water-leisure experience on site. I had a 30-minute session driving a boat myself, then returned to the café for a drink; it was easy to get used to, and the view from the water stayed with me.

During my trip to Yangyang, I stopped by Cafe Dunchi to have a drink and take a break. Since it is a café overlooking the Namdaecheon River where you can also enjoy water leisure, I tried the boat as well. What I remember most from that day was moving across the water while steering it myself.

Is it a good place to relax with a Namdaecheon River view?
Cafe Dunchi is by the Namdaecheon River, so I could spend time looking out over the water. It felt different from a café by the sea, and the open surroundings made it easy to relax while sitting there.

When I visited, it was not overly noisy or hectic, so it was nice to have a drink and talk at an unhurried pace. I felt it would be fine to visit just for the café without doing water leisure.

How were the drinks at the café?
Because it was a café in a tourist area, I did not have high expectations for the drinks, but they tasted good when I tried them. There were various options, and it was also nice to rest with a drink before getting on the boat.

Do you drive the boat yourself? Was it difficult?
At first, I thought it would be an experience where I simply sat in the boat and looked around, but I drove it myself for 30 minutes. It was the most fun experience I tried after coming to the café to relax.

I was worried that steering might be difficult, but I got used to it quickly once I tried it. Being able to adjust the direction myself made it more fun than simply riding in a boat and looking at the scenery.

I naturally became absorbed in deciding where to go and changing direction. Before getting on, I thought 30 minutes would be enough, but time passed quickly while I was driving.

How were the view from the water and the 30-minute experience?
The scenery from the boat was nice too. Seeing the Namdaecheon River from the water felt different from looking at it while sitting in the café. I thought that on a day with good weather, enjoying the scenery would add another layer of fun.

Time passed quickly, but the experience did not feel so short that I was disappointed, nor so long that I became tired. For me, it was a good length to fit into the middle of a travel itinerary without feeling burdensome.

Is the café convenient for resting before and after the boat experience?
After getting off the boat, I went back into the café and had a drink. Having a cold drink after spending time steering and playing around made me more satisfied than I had been before the experience.

It was convenient that I could use the café and water leisure in one place. The flow of having a drink, riding the boat, and resting again meant I did not need to look for and travel to a separate experience venue.

What kind of Yangyang itinerary does it suit?
Because driving the boat myself was fun, I thought it would be nice to come with friends or a partner. Taking photos or videos of someone steering could also become a travel memory.

It seemed like a place to stop if you want to add one more activity to an itinerary of seeing the sea, eating a meal, and resting at a café. I liked the café atmosphere and drinks too, but the 30 minutes of driving the boat myself stayed with me most, and I would like to ride it again next time.
