Baby high chair and soju with kimchijjim at Goyu, Gyeongju
In short
Goyu is a Korean restaurant on Sajeong-ro in the Hwangnidan-gil area of Gyeongju, serving kimchijjim (braised kimchi with pork) and crispy bulgogi as its mains. Visiting with a baby, the writer ordered kimchijjim, crispy bulgogi, a bowl of rice, a drink and a bottle of soju, and rated the complimentary geotjeori (fresh kimchi salad) and beef radish soup the highlights of the table. With a high chair ready and staff who carried the stroller over the gravel path out front, Goyu works well for a family meal with a little one.

Visiting Gyeongju, I wanted a proper, filling meal in Hwangnidan-gil, so I stopped by Goyu. The street is packed with pretty cafés and dessert shops, but when you're traveling, sometimes you just crave real food, you know?

Since I was visiting with my baby this time, I was looking for a menu that wasn't too spicy or strong but that adults could still enjoy — and that's how I ended up at Goyu.

Goyu has a clean, tidy space that fits right in with the vibe of Hwangnidan-gil — it keeps a traditional feel while staying overall well put-together, so it worked fine for a family meal.
What is Goyu like inside?

Once inside, the whole place felt clean and organized. I liked that it kept the local Hwangnidan-gil character while still being a comfortable spot to focus on your meal, and the tables were all neatly arranged.

Rather than the chaotic feel you sometimes get at tourist-area restaurants, it had a calm mood that made it good for a family visit. We came with our baby and were able to eat comfortably the whole time without much hassle.
What we ordered at Goyu

We ordered kimchijjim, crispy bulgogi, one bowl of rice, one drink, and one bottle of soju. Getting the kimchijjim for us and the crispy bulgogi for Roeun to eat meant we got to enjoy a few different flavors instead of sticking to just one dish.
The side dishes that come first
Once we ordered, the side dishes came out: geotjeori (fresh kimchi salad), kimchi, and beef radish soup.

The geotjeori was sweet and crunchy in just the right way to whet the appetite — I personally really enjoyed it.

The beef radish soup was also great — a generous portion, and the beef in it was really tender. When you're eating out with a baby, sometimes the adult dishes are delicious but there's nothing your kid can really eat; having this soup on the table made feeding her a lot easier.
Kimchijjim with a bowl of rice
The main dish we ordered, kimchijjim.

It came out warm with well-fermented kimchi, which paired perfectly with hot rice.

Kimchijjim is best when you scoop up a spoonful of rice with kimchi and meat piled on top, so we ordered a bowl of rice to go with it — and sure enough, it went together perfectly.

The kimchi has this deep savory flavor that's even better with rice than eaten alone, and it turned into a really filling meal. Having a proper Korean spread in Hwangnidan-gil left me satisfied.
Crispy bulgogi alongside
And the crispy bulgogi we ordered alongside.

If kimchijjim is the moist dish that goes great with rice, the crispy bulgogi was the one where you really get to enjoy the meat itself.

It was crisped up on the outside but not too dry inside, making it great to eat back and forth with the kimchijjim. If we'd only ordered kimchijjim it might have felt a little lacking, but adding the crispy bulgogi made it work well both as a side for rice and as a drinking snack.

My husband had to drive so he stuck to a soft drink, but I ordered a bottle of soju to go with the meal — a drink alongside such tasty food really set the mood.
Is Goyu easy to visit with a baby?
Goyu has a baby chair ready, and even though the front of the restaurant is gravel, staff came out later to help carry the stroller. What I personally liked most about this visit was that eating with my baby wasn't a burden at all.

Roeun is still little, so when picking restaurants while traveling, I can't just think about what the adults want to eat. That day, I was able to feed her the tender beef radish soup and crispy bulgogi along with rice. If you're planning a Gyeongju trip with a baby, this Korean restaurant's varied menu makes it a solid option for a family meal.
A filling meal in Gyeongju's Hwangnidan-gil
Hwangnidan-gil has so many famous cafés and dessert spots that it's easy to end up just grabbing something light while traveling.

This time, ordering kimchijjim and crispy bulgogi along with rice made for a genuinely filling meal. When traveling with a baby especially, you end up looking for a place where you can eat comfortably, not just somewhere pretty — and what stuck with me about Goyu was how well it covered both an adult menu and something my baby could eat.

If you're looking for somewhere to eat warm Korean food in Hwangnidan-gil rather than just cafés and desserts, Goyu is worth a visit.

You can order the kimchijjim plus crispy bulgogi combo like we did and share it, and it's a good place to visit with family or a partner when you want a proper filling meal during your Gyeongju trip.

We ate a lot of good food on this Gyeongju trip, but at Goyu it felt like I'd finally had a real, proper meal after a while — that's what stayed with me.
