Description of the bokhaemul kalguksu set

Yubok Kalguksu serves kalguksu, jjukkumi, dumplings, savory pancakes and more, but the best value and most filling option among them is the bokhaemul kalguksu set.

Bokhaemul kalguksu set spread with noodles, jjukkumi, and barley rice

It's the restaurant's flagship set — refreshing bokhaemul kalguksu, smoky charcoal-grilled jjukkumi, and barley rice all together, perfect when you want to try a bit of everything. Since it's such good value, the set can only be ordered for two people or more.

Pufferfish-broth kalguksu with noodles cut in house

Bokhaemul kalguksu simmered in pufferfish broth

Yubok Kalguksu uses broth made by simmering wild milkfish pufferfish for a long time, then adds same-day live clams, oysters, and small conch, according to the restaurant.

The clams and seafood are generous, and it was genuinely refreshing and delicious — the kind of soup good enough to cure a hangover.

Chewy house-hand-pulled kalguksu noodles

Noodles matter a lot in kalguksu, and Yubok Kalguksu hand-pulls its noodles fresh every day. A bite of chewy noodle followed by a sip of the refreshing broth is truly satisfying.

Flame-grilled jjukkumi (baby octopus): the smoky highlight

Spicy charcoal-grilled jjukkumi with a smoky char

The jjukkumi (baby octopus) had a proper smoky char and was really delicious. It's spicy, so eating it alongside the kalguksu made for a perfect balance of flavors.

Spicy jjukkumi eaten together with kalguksu

Mixing the spicy-sauced jjukkumi into the barley rice is also amazing. The spicy, smoky jjukkumi and the plain barley rice work great together, so switching back and forth with the kalguksu kept things interesting.

Jjukkumi mixed into barley rice

Eating the warm, refreshing bokhaemul kalguksu, then a bite of spicy jjukkumi-barley rice, makes your mouth spicy — and going back to the kalguksu broth cleans your palate right up. If you love both kalguksu and jjukkumi, this set is fully satisfying.

House-made geotjeori kimchi from Korean cabbage

House-made geotjeori kimchi with domestic ingredients

Kimchi is a must with kalguksu, and Yubok Kalguksu serves geotjeori (fresh-tossed kimchi) made in-house with domestic ingredients. Using only domestic ingredients and making it themselves eases any worries about hygiene or quality — and honestly, it was just really tasty.

Kalguksu noodles topped with geotjeori kimchi

Kalguksu noodles paired with delicious kimchi is a combo you devour without a word. And since it's geotjeori, it was exactly my style. Two servings of the bokhaemul kalguksu set is plenty for two people to eat until full.

The dessert corner with Starbucks blend iced coffee

Yubok Kalguksu Yongin Korean Folk Village Branch also has a dessert corner. No need to go to a café afterward — you can handle dessert right here.

Iced coffee and milk coffee at the dessert corner

There's iced coffee and milk coffee, and the iced americano turned out to be made with Starbucks blend.

Assorted retro snacks at the dessert corner

There was also a nice variety of retro snacks, the kind kids love too, and since children age 7 and under get free rice, it's a good place to bring the little ones.
