A Korean restaurant near Sutonggol, Daejeon: Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch

The breeze has been getting cooler lately and I can suddenly feel early autumn creeping in. This is exactly the kind of weather that makes me want a hearty meal with the family for the weekend. 😊 This time I went looking for a good restaurant near Sutonggol in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, and ended up at Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch.

It's located in Sutonggol, close to Hakha-dong and Doan-dong, and also easily reachable from Gapcheon Ecological Park and the National Cemetery, so it's a great spot to grab a meal after an outing nearby.

Parking, waiting, and a visit right at last order

There's a large parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so we didn't have to worry about parking at all. Parking can be a low-key stress point when eating out with family, so this was really convenient. Inside, there's a waiting area, and the system runs on Table-ing registration. Since our evening plans ran a bit late, we ended up arriving right around last order — luckily, that meant no wait at all.

Rooms and a kids' zone: the size of the place

Walking in, the place was bigger than I expected. The interior is spacious with generous spacing between tables, so it seemed like a solid choice for family gatherings or group meals. There were also rooms further inside :) In particular, there's a kids' zone where children can play, which makes it a great spot to visit with kids too.

Baby chairs and disposable aprons are also provided.

Ordering the fire-grilled pork/octopus set for two

We used the table order tablet to order the fire-grilled pork/octopus set for two plus a rice ball ✔️ At Boksakkot, ordering a set menu for 2 or more comes with a handmade wood-fired pizza + salad + mukbap (buckwheat jelly soup) + dessert coffee, so you get a really hearty meal.

Basic side dishes and the unlimited self-serve bar

As standard, you get seasoned bean sprouts, radish pickle, young cabbage kimchi, salad, mukbap, and bibimbap ingredients.

On one side there's an unlimited self-serve bar. It has all the basic side dishes plus seaweed soup, scorched rice water, and rice — all as much as you want — and unlimited drinks too, which made things even more satisfying.

They also sell various types of nurungji (scorched rice snacks) and old-fashioned Korean snacks.

The combination of octopus, pork, bibimbap, and rice ball

A serving robot brings the ordered food to the table. You mix the stir-fried octopus and pork into a bowl of bibimbap that comes with seaweed flakes and vegetables as a base.

The stir-fried dishes that came out for the meal looked so appetizing right off the bat. Eating the octopus and pork together turned out to be a surprisingly great combination. The octopus was tender yet chewy, and the spicy sauce really brought out the flavor. The pork had a subtle smoky char from the direct grilling, which made it perfect for mixing with rice.

We also ordered the rice ball with seaweed flakes, and eating it alongside the fire-grilled dishes helped balance out the spiciness while keeping us full. Our stage-2 toddler ate it well too :) Less spicy than Shin Ramyun!!!!

The handmade wood-fired pizza included in the set

And having pizza included in the set menu is one of Boksakkot's charms! We tried the pepperoni pizza, and with its stretchy cheese and spicy kick, it went really well alongside the stir-fried dishes too. Coming for Korean food and getting wood-fired pizza on top of it seems great for families visiting with kids. They also have pork cutlet and pasta, so it's a good pick for eating out with children.

Dessert at the café next door, plus puffed rice snacks

Boksakkot Pineun Jip doesn't end with just the meal — you can get ice cream by joining their review event, and after eating you can take out coffee or tea and enjoy it at the leisurely café right next door. They also have various puffed rice snacks ready, which made it easy to cover dessert with the kids too.

How was it as a spot for family dinners and group gatherings?

If you're looking for good Korean food near Sutonggol, I'd recommend this Yuseong-gu, Daejeon restaurant, Boksakkot Pineun Jip Daejeon Branch. The fire-grilled pork and octopus stir-fries had a great balance of smoky char and spicy seasoning that went well with rice, and being able to enjoy the wood-fired pizza, mukbap, salad, coffee and dessert snacks all together made the set composition at Boksakkot especially appealing.

Parking is easy, the space is spacious, and there's even a kids' zone for children to play in, so I'd recommend it for family dinners, meals with kids, and family or group gatherings.
