Yangyang café with electric boats on Namdaecheon: Cafe Dunchi
In short
Cafe Dunchi is a café beside the Namdaecheon Water Leisure Sports Center in Yangyang, Gangwon. I had a green tea latte and café latte, then drove an electric boat around the river’s wetlands and grassy banks; the parking and river views were good, though heat or rain may make boating difficult.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and was parking easy?
During my trip to Yangyang, I stopped by Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치), which is located alongside the Namdaecheon Water Leisure Sports Center. Its colorful exterior stood out even from a distance.

The most convenient part upon arriving was the plentiful parking space. After parking and walking to the dock, I saw boats lined up on the calm river. Even before getting on a boat, I could relax while looking out at the river.
What drinks and desserts did I find at the café?
I went into the café before boarding the boat. Along with coffee, there were ades and smoothies, so there was a wide selection of drinks. For a tourist area, the prices felt reasonable to me.

Desserts, including egg tarts, were displayed beside the counter. Seeing their golden-baked appearance and smelling their sweet aroma, I considered trying one.

We ordered a green tea latte and a café latte. The character on the cup sleeve suited the café’s atmosphere, and the drinks tasted rich and clean.

Where could I relax while looking out over Namdaecheon?
The interior felt cozy, with a wood-toned ceiling and green plants. When I visited, several other guests were already seated and spending time there.

The window seats in particular offered a full view of Namdaecheon. It was nice to quietly look at the scene where the river and sky met.

Further inside, there was also a terrace-like space. Its floor-to-ceiling windows opened up the view, and it felt warm with plenty of sunlight.

There was also quite a bit of space between tables, making it comfortable to stay and talk with my companions.

How did I prepare before riding the electric boat?
Before getting on the boat, I put on one of the provided life jackets. They were arranged by size from small to extra large, with fluorescent yellow children’s life jackets set aside next to them. There was also a safety staff member, which made me feel reassured while getting ready.

What was it like to drive the electric boat myself?
The electric boat I rode moved forward without a reverse function, and I steered it with a wheel.

Once I got on the boat, the view opened up. It was not fast, so I had time to enjoy the surrounding scenery, and it was fun to drive it myself.

It operated by pressing a single button, and the owner kindly explained how to use it.

What scenery did I see while drinking coffee on the boat?
The boat had a table with drink holders, so it was easy to bring coffee purchased at the café aboard. Drinking coffee in the river breeze felt different from sitting indoors. Emergency contact information was also displayed on the table.

I could observe the wetlands and grassy banks around Namdaecheon up close. Following the gentle ripples and taking in the scenery was relaxing.

Who is it good to visit with, and what could be a drawback?
Because I could combine café time with a boat experience, I thought it would be nice for families or couples to talk while enjoying the scenery. However, boating may be difficult in very hot weather or rain, so it would be best to check the weather before visiting.
