Mapo seafood restaurant set meal: Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada

In short

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a seafood restaurant near Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul, serving sashimi, seasonal seafood, grilled dishes, fried items, and chilled pork in set meals. My family tried the Signature Set, with everything served at once for about ₩150,000 for five people. Verdict: a filling, good-value choice for family gatherings or work dinners.

If you’re looking for a Mapo seafood restaurant that works well for a family gathering or company dinner, I recommend Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada (제철담은 마포바다), which I visited this time! I spotted what looked like a newly opened, large seafood restaurant while passing Daeheung Station, looked up the menu, and found the set selection more substantial than expected—so I brought the whole family along +_+

This isn’t a typical seafood restaurant that serves only sashimi. The set lets you enjoy a wide variety all at once, from seasonal seafood to grilled dishes, fried items, and chilled pork. I went with my family over the weekend, and there were lots of dishes for the price, so we were really satisfied overall.

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is near Exit 3 of Daeheung Station, so it wasn’t hard to find. We had discovered it while passing through the area, and even on our first visit, the large space and eye-catching sign made it easy to spot.

Above all, the restaurant is quite spacious, so I think it is a really good option when you need a Mapo seafood restaurant for a larger group—whether that is a family gathering, a get-together with friends, or a company dinner!!

Since it is a newly opened Mapo seafood restaurant, you might picture the old-fashioned feel that seafood restaurants can have, but this place was clean and comfortable for dining. The tables were spaced well, so it was nice to chat comfortably with my family while we ate, and it also worked well for sitting together as a group with a table full of food. It really felt like a Mapo seafood restaurant that suits occasions with lots of people, such as family gatherings or company dinners.

Mapo Bada had a Value Set, Premium Set, and Signature Set to choose from depending on the number of people.

  • Mapo Bada Value Set: ₩103,000 / 2 people
  • Mapo Bada Premium Set: ₩129,000 / 3–4 people
  • Mapo Bada Signature Set: ₩151,000 / 4+ people
  • 20 live salt-grilled shrimp
  • Raw shrimp + gizzard shad sashimi + large assorted sashimi
  • Assorted seafood and 4 grilled gizzard shad
  • Chilled pork with seasoned chamnamul greens, abalone innards porridge, tofu kimchi, and fried shrimp heads

The assorted sashimi is served as four of the freshest fish of the day from olive flounder, red seabream, rockfish, sea bass, and spotted knifejaw. I liked that the selection changes a little from day to day.

The Signature Set arrived all at once

What we liked most was that the food did not come out one dish at a time—it arrived from the start as a table completely full of food. Instead of waiting for the sashimi and then the next dish, all the dishes we ordered were laid out at once, so the table was packed right away haha

Assorted seafood

The assorted seafood included sea cucumber, sea squirt, raw shrimp, live octopus, raw scallop, and abalone, so there was a really wide variety. It was clearly fresh too, with no fishy taste at all 👍

There was also grilled gizzard shad, an autumn seasonal item. Having grilled fish as well as sashimi made the menu feel even more abundant. The bones were soft enough that I could eat almost the whole fish, and perhaps because it was in season, it was incredibly nutty and delicious!

And the chilled pork was unexpectedly delicious! If you keep eating only seafood, you might get a little tired of it, but the chilled pork was great for changing up the flavors in between. In particular, it went better with the seasoned chamnamul greens than I expected >.<

The assorted sashimi came with four types of the freshest fish that day, and when I visited, they had prepared autumn seasonal fish. We had olive flounder, rockfish, red seabream, red croaker, and gizzard shad sashimi, and everything was so delicious.

The fried items were varied too, with kabocha squash, shrimp, and potato croquettes. They stayed fairly crisp even after a little time had passed and did not have that stale oil smell, so they tasted clean *_* By the end, after the abalone innards porridge and seaweed soup as well, I was seriously stuffed haha

There were as many as 20 live salt-grilled shrimp, enough for five of us to share. The shrimp were springy and sweet, and peeling one to eat between bites of sashimi was so good.. 🤤 The shrimp heads came separately fried, so we could enjoy every bit until the end. These were just perfect with drinks haha

Full set meal of sashimi and seafood

A Mapo seafood restaurant with just lots of sashimi is nice too, but if you are looking for somewhere that offers a variety all at once—from sashimi and seafood to grilled dishes, fried items, and meat—I would recommend Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada. Five of us ate generously for around ₩150,000, so I would recommend it as a good-value Mapo seafood restaurant for family gatherings or company dinners 👍
