Dog-friendly black pork BBQ in Seogwipo, Jeju: Jeju Healing Dwaeji

In short

Jeju Healing Dwaeji is an ocean-view black pork BBQ restaurant on the Maljil-ro coastal road in Seogwipo, Jeju. Two diners brought a dog crate and took an outdoor ocean-view table for one geun (600g, ₩65,000) of black pork, pre-grilled at the table and eaten with four kinds of salt and melchi-jeot (fermented anchovy sauce), finished with grilled tangerines. Getting to Jeju Healing Dwaeji and where to park

Jeju Healing Dwaeji sits along the coastal road on Maljil-ro in Seogwipo, so you can see the ocean before you even arrive. The drive there is insane — you go straight along the coastal road, so it's total eye candy the whole way, haha.

There's a spacious parking lot right next to the restaurant, and it extends all the way to the front of the neighboring Golden Hour Jeju Café — so if the lot right in front is full, you can park there instead!

This is what the big BBQ restaurant looks like — the outdoor seats have an ocean view, so even on a windy day, quite a lot of people were eating outside.

Indoor seats or the outdoor ocean-view tables — and what time to go

Jeju Healing Dwaeji has plenty of indoor seating too, but the highlight is the outdoor ocean-view seats. The indoor section is roomy as well, so if it's raining or too hot or cold, eating inside works just fine!

But the real highlight of Jeju Healing Dwaeji is the outdoor seating ⭐️ The ocean view is insane, tears,,, For reference, when I went, most of the outdoor seats were already reserved…! If you want a front-row ocean-view spot outside, I'd recommend booking ahead. I visited at 6pm!! With autumn setting in, the days have gotten a bit shorter. If you want to catch daylight, come around 6pm so you can see both the ocean and the sunset — worth keeping in mind when you plan your visit!

Can you bring your dog to Jeju Healing Dwaeji?

Jeju Healing Dwaeji is dog-friendly, and as long as you have a crate, your dog can even join you indoors. I brought my dog's crate and set up like this — since indoor seating also allows dogs with a crate, keep that in mind if you're bringing a pet along.

One geun of black pork for two — is it enough?

One geun (about 600g) of black pork at Jeju Healing Dwaeji is ₩65,000, and it was plenty for two people even without any side dishes. Since there were two of us, we ordered one geun of black pork. Honestly I wanted to order the sunset-pairing dish too, but since we were driving, I held back, haha,,, One geun was more than enough for two, so we didn't order any extra sides.

The basic side dishes come out like this, and there are a whopping four kinds of salt!! (green tea salt, prickly pear cactus salt, pepper salt, garlic salt) So dipping into different salts is its own kind of fun, haha.

This is roughly how much one geun looks like…! It comes with half a mushroom and half a tangerine too. They show you the raw meat first, then grill it partway in the kitchen before bringing it out.

It comes out pre-grilled in the back and cut into easy-to-eat pieces like this. They also add melchi-jeot (fermented anchovy sauce) on top along the way.

How the black pork tasted with four salts and melchi-jeot

The black pork at Jeju Healing Dwaeji is pork belly with the skin still on, and the fat wasn't greasy at all — it was chewy. Eating it while looking out at the ocean was pure bliss,,,💖 The view was gorgeous and the meat was delicious ⭐️ The meat was springy and just so good. I think the best part of Jeju black pork is the fatty section, and here the fat wasn't greasy at all, totally chewy!! It's pork belly with the skin attached, and the chewiness was absolutely the best.

There were so many sauces to choose from and dip into, which I liked. Besides the salts, there was also wasabi mayo, so there was never a moment it felt greasy!!

Various sauces including salts and wasabi mayo

Dipped in melchi-jeot, it's the best!! Jeju really is all about melchi-jeot, haha. This particular melchi-jeot was thick and rich, so the distinct flavor really came through nicely. The portion was genuinely filling for two women eating together, and it was plenty even without any sides!

Grilled tangerines to finish

The tangerines that come out with the meal are cooked until the bottom skin turns nearly black, eaten as a dessert — it's unusual…! It kind of tastes like roasted sweet potato coming from a tangerine? Perfect for cleansing the palate.

Overall verdict on Jeju Healing Dwaeji

  • A must-visit ocean-view black pork spot in Jeju
  • Chewy meat that's never greasy
  • A top pork belly restaurant in Seogwipo
