Bucheon Korean BBQ for tender Iberico pork neck: Dwaeji Gongbang

In short

Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, serving Iberico pork neck and Korean pork special cuts. I ordered the half-platter set and loved the 80%-cooked pork neck and the complimentary sundubu-jjigae. Dwaeji Gongbang is my top pick for pork and flavorful side dishes in Okgil-dong.

A Busy Korean BBQ Restaurant in Okgil-dong

This weekend, I visited a Korean BBQ restaurant in Okgil-dong! I have been so busy sorting out this and that ahead of a move, but that is exactly when you need to make sure you eat well, right? Haha. The Okgil-dong BBQ place I visited was Dwaeji Gongbang.

It is super easy to get to—only about a 180-meter walk from Byeolbitmaru Library and Sosa Police Station in Okgil-dong. There were sooo many BBQ restaurants nearby, but this was the busiest one of all! It was Dwaeji Gongbang, haha. There was a menu board outside too, so I could take a quick look before going in!

The inside of Dwaeji Gongbang was neat and clean! Its ventilation was great, so even though it is a grilling restaurant, there was none of that stale or sticky feeling. It was really comfortable.

We arrived at around 7:40 p.m. and ate until nearly 9, and people kept coming in despite it being late on a Sunday evening. There really were tons of BBQ places around, but customers just kept streaming into Dwaeji Gongbang!

Table Kiosk Menu and the Half Platter

At Dwaeji Gongbang, you order from the kiosk at each table! The menu has all kinds of pork cuts, including pork belly, gabeorisal (pork collar), pork neck, and kkodeulsal (a chewy pork cut). There are also set menus for trying these cuts at a good value.

  • Thick-cut pork neck (Iberico): ₩17,000
  • Fresh pork belly (Korean pork): ₩17,000
  • Gabeorisal (Korean pork): ₩16,000
  • Kkodeulsal (Korean pork): ₩15,000
  • Half platter: 3 special cuts + sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew), ₩49,000
  • Sundubu-jjigae is complimentary for every table!!!

The Best Combinations for the Meat

The best ways to enjoy the meat at Dwaeji Gongbang are posted above the kiosk, so please, please try them that way!!!! I especially ate a lot of combination number 3—the pickled shredded chili peppers and pickled garlic scapes are seriously the key here!!!!***

We ordered the half platter at Dwaeji Gongbang! The basic side dishes arrived with it: dressed garlic chives, garlic scapes and pickled shredded chili peppers, white kimchi, myeonginamul (pickled wild garlic leaves), and more. Not one of the complimentary accompaniments at Dwaeji Gongbang was a throwaway!!!! How can every single one pair so well with the meat...!!!!

You can freely help yourself to anything more you need at this self-service corner!! You will probably come back often...!!!!!! Everything here is just so delicious..!

Complimentary Sundubu-jjigae and the Platter

This is the complimentary sundubu-jjigae at Dwaeji Gongbang! Plenty of BBQ and other restaurants serve soft tofu stew as a basic side, but Dwaeji Gongbang is different. It is genuinely, seriously delicious hahahahaha. It tastes good enough to be from a sundubu-jjigae specialty restaurant!!!!! Maybe that is why Dwaeji Gongbang even sells the seasoning paste for it separately. That shows how confident they are in it, right!? Haha.

The half platter was ₩49,000. Here came Dwaeji Gongbang's half platter, with thick-cut pork neck, gabeorisal, and kkodeulsal!!! The platter includes pork neck, gabeorisal, and kkodeulsal. When the meat arrives, the staff explain the cuts to you and kindly tell you how to enjoy them, too, haha. They said the grilling order does not matter!

Half-platter meat selection

For anyone who forgets which cut is which after ordering the assorted meat, the ventilation hood has the order of the cuts written according to their meat boards! I loved this! If you are not an expert on meat, you can forget the explanation quickly, right!? This let me keep track of each cut while eating, so I could enjoy the flavors even more.

Iberico Pork Neck Cooked to 80%

The first thing we grilled at Dwaeji Gongbang was the pork neck! A staff member grilled this first cut for us. After that, you grill the rest yourself!! The ventilation and grill were both great, so there was not one bit of difficulty with grilling.

The pork neck at Dwaeji Gongbang was Iberico pork neck! They told us it is tastier cooked to about 80% rather than thoroughly cooked through. I waited eagerly for it to cook to the most delicious level, haha.

For our very first bite at Dwaeji Gongbang, we tried the combination the staff member personally recommended! Soak the pork neck well in the brine from the myeonginamul, top it with shredded chili peppers and garlic scapes, and add wasabi too if you like it!!! Then take a big bite, followed by some nicely grilled white kimchi, and the pork flavor comes even more alive!

Everyone, this combination is soooooo delicious. Please, please try it—and once you do, you will keep eating it..! Haha.

Next, we kept grilling and eating the gabeorisal and kkodeulsal too! But maybe because it was Iberico, the pork neck was definitely in a league of its own!!! I never particularly liked pork neck because of the idea that it is dry, but after eating it at Dwaeji Gongbang, I fell in love—it was sooooo tender, haha.

Dwaeji Gongbang also had an indoor restroom! It was clean, with plenty of air fresheners, and you could clearly see that they put a lot of care into cleanliness.

Dwaeji Gongbang was our Sunday dinner spot in Okgil-dong!!! The meat quality was so good, and the side dishes to eat alongside it were delicious too, so I could enjoy the meat even more and more! There are many BBQ restaurants in Okgil-dong, but Dwaeji Gongbang is the one I most want to recommend!!!! >_<
