Gangneung hanjeongsik for groups on Jukheon-gil: Saimdang Bueok

Saimdang Bueok is a Korean restaurant I'd recommend both as a Gangneung hanjeongsik (traditional set meal) spot and as an Ojukheon-area restaurant.

I visited Saimdang Bueok wanting a proper meal while traveling around Gangneung. There's plenty of famous food here like sundubu or chodang sundubu, but

Where is Saimdang Bueok? On Jukheon-gil, minutes from Ojukheon

Saimdang Bueok sits on Jukheon-gil in Gangneung, which makes it pretty accessible from the city's major sights.

Being close to Ojukheon, it's convenient to eat here after touring Ojukheon, or whenever you're looking for a place to grab a meal while traveling around Gangneung. It's also within easy driving distance of Gyeongpodae, Gyeongpo Lake, Arte Museum Gangneung, and Chodang Sundubu Village, so it worked well as a meal stop in the middle of a sightseeing route.

So this time, I was looking for a Gangneung restaurant where I could eat a solid meal after sightseeing, and that's how I ended up here. It's easy to combine with nearby sights, so if you're looking for a restaurant near Ojukheon or near Arte Museum, this one is worth considering.

Saimdang table for two: price and what comes with it

What we ordered was the Saimdang table for two.

The price was ₩19,000 per person, ₩38,000 for two.

I liked that the Saimdang table lets you try a variety of dishes together along with a full spread of side dishes.

There were about 12 basic side dishes, plus butter-grilled scallops, stir-fried pork, and grilled fish on top of that, so the table ended up quite generously set.

If you like eating a little of many different side dishes rather than sticking to just one menu item, this setup would be pretty satisfying.

Chodang sundubu or miyeokguk: one of each at Saimdang Bueok

The Saimdang table came with butter-grilled scallops, stir-fried pork, and grilled fish, and for the main dish you could choose between chodang sundubu and miyeokguk.

Since there were two of us, we ordered one chodang sundubu and one miyeokguk.

The butter-grilled scallops had that buttery richness that made them stand out a bit from the other side dishes, and the stir-fried pork went really well with rice.

With grilled fish thrown in too, it was easy to work through a bowl of rice while pairing it with all sorts of side dishes.

Above all, having 12 basic side dishes on the table meant the whole spread felt quite varied.

Rather than just having one simple dish while traveling, this felt like the kind of place to visit when you're craving a Gangneung hanjeongsik with lots of dishes together. And personally, I liked that you could choose chodang sundubu as your main.

If you're in Gangneung wanting chodang sundubu but also craving a full hanjeongsik, this setup lets you have both at once.

Dining room and parking at Saimdang Bueok: room for groups

Overall, Saimdang Bueok's dining room felt spacious and clean.

The tables had generous spacing, which made it comfortable for two of us to eat, but

it also looked like a solid option for larger group meals.

The spacious parking lot is a real plus for travelers driving around. Since a Gangneung trip usually means moving between several sights by car, not having to stress over parking was a welcome relief.

So for family travelers or larger groups, this is worth considering as a Gangneung restaurant.

Verdict: a Gangneung hanjeongsik to pair with an Ojukheon visit

Overall, Saimdang Bueok felt like a good Gangneung hanjeongsik restaurant to visit when you want a solid, filling meal during your trip.
