Signature cauldron-lid pork belly at Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong

I was hunting for somewhere to eat in Suyu and this time landed on Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong 🥩 Whenever I'm trying to figure out what to eat, samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) is always the first thing that comes to mind ,, this time I ordered a full plate of aged whole pork belly along with bibim naengmyeon and crab soybean paste stew.

What kind of Korean BBQ restaurant is Suyu Daewang?

  • ⏰16:00–02:40
  • 🅿️ Parking available

As the name suggests, Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong grills meat on a big cauldron lid. There are all kinds of styles of Korean BBQ places these days, but I have a soft spot for this old-school feel of pork belly sizzling away on a wide lid haha.

Finding Suyu Daewang near Suyu Station, and where to park

There was a parking space next to the restaurant, so we were lucky enough to park there. You can park next to the Noran Tongdak (fried chicken) store next door.

If you're searching for good food near Suyu Station or a Suyu BBQ spot, the exterior alone gives off the vibe of somewhere easygoing for a group dinner or a casual drink.

Inside Suyu Daewang: group tables and the self-serve bar

We visited around 4pm.

The restaurant was spacious and had quite a lot of tables :)

Spacious interior with many tables

It's not a private room, but there's a space set up for group gatherings, separated by partitions.

Self-serve bar with lettuce for wraps

There was also a self-serve bar, and you could take as much lettuce as you wanted :) But only take as much as you'll actually eat!

We ordered one full plate of whole pork belly for ₩29,000. Just a heads-up that there's a separate ₩2,000 per-person table charge.

Kimchi and pork belly set on the cauldron lid

The kimchi had that perfect color for grilling, right?? The owner set everything up for us at the start, which made things easy.

The pork belly wasn't the thin-cut style — it came sliced thick, so once it was on the cauldron lid it already looked pretty hearty 🥩

Bean sprouts, minari (water dropwort), on it all goes!!

Grilling on the wide cauldron lid meant we could load on several pieces at once, and it was fun watching the meat cook while we waited haha. Starting from the golden-brown bits, they cut the meat into bite-sized pieces for us.

Because the pork belly was thick, it had a good chew, with fatty parts and lean meat together in each bite, which worked well wrapped in lettuce or paired with sides. Personally, I preferred mixing in different things rather than just eating meat nonstop.

Crab soybean paste stew, 4,900 won: the broth to break up the meat

After eating a fair amount of meat, we also ordered the crab soybean paste stew (₩4,900).

Crab soybean paste stew with crab pieces

When you're deep into a BBQ meal, you start craving a warm spoonful of soup in between ,, since this soybean paste stew has crab in it, it had more of a seafood aroma than a regular version, which made it nice to eat between bites of pork belly. Especially if you're drinking, having a stew on the side rather than just ordering meat seems like a solid combo 🍻

Finishing with bibim naengmyeon, 7,000 won, and 1,000 won extra broth

You've got to finish with naengmyeon (cold noodles) haha. We ordered the bibim (spicy mixed) version for ₩7,000 and added broth separately for ₩1,000.

Bibim naengmyeon ordered to finish the meal, with extra broth

At first we ate it as the sweet-spicy bibim style, then poured in the broth afterward for something a bit more moist and refreshing, which I liked. And of course, saving one last piece of pork belly to wrap up with the noodles is a must haha.

Who should eat pork belly at Suyu Daewang?

Suyu Daewang Sotttukkeong isn't the kind of place you go to for flashy or unusual dishes — it's more of a Korean BBQ restaurant where you grill pork belly on a cauldron lid and round out the meal with stew and naengmyeon for a hearty, filling meal. If you're near Suyu Station craving samgyeopsal for dinner, or looking for somewhere to grab meat and a drink with friends, this one's worth keeping in mind 🙂
