Charcoal-grilled steak and spicy pasta at Shashlik, Changwon

A Western restaurant date in Seok-dong with my mom

Today, my mom and I went on a Western-food date for the first time in ages haha. We went straight to Shashlik Jinhae Branch in Seok-dong! When my mom and I eat out together, we usually go for Korean food or meat, but this time we did something a little different and had pasta and shashlik steak.

Where should you park?

Shashlik is on the second floor of the building next to Mijin Bakery. We parked in one of the spaces along the nearby park and headed up! The restaurant says you can use the private Seok-dong parking lot right next door or the park-side parking spaces. Just note that the lot beside the restaurant is private, not a public parking lot!

An airy interior with floor-to-ceiling windows

Once we went up to the second floor, it felt much more open than I expected!! Inside, the floor-to-ceiling windows made the space look really airy. I liked that it did not feel cramped, and I think the sunny daytime atmosphere would be nice too.

There was also bar-style seating on one side, which looked nice for coming by for a drink in the evening haha.

There were also tons of Post-it notes written by customers. When you see something like that, you cannot help reading them one by one, right? Haha.

Games to play while you wait

One cute thing here was that they had a few simple games ready for people to play while waiting for their food. Shashlik Jinhae Branch is a pet-friendly restaurant in Jinhae, so people come with their dogs, and it also looked like a nice place for a family meal with kids!!

It was convenient that we could check the Wi-Fi password there too. The notice says dishes can take about 15 minutes to prepare, depending on the menu. When we visited, though, it felt like it took around 25 minutes for the main dishes to arrive.

The interior is spacious and the food looked easy to share among several people, so it seemed like a decent option for anyone looking for a place in Jinhae to meet friends and hand out wedding invitations. If you have a large group and need to coordinate timing, it might be worth asking whether you can pre-order the menu when reserving! If you order on-site like we did, there may be a bit of a wait depending on the dishes haha.

Ordering the Shashlik Special and pache pasta

We spent ages going, “What should we eat...?” lol, then ordered the ₩25,000 Shashlik Special.

Since shashlik is all about charcoal-grilled meat, I thought this would be the menu item to try first on a first visit! We also ordered the spicy seafood pasta, pache pasta, to share. The menu had already marked it as potentially spicy, but my mom and I both love spicy food, so we were like, “Oh come on, how spicy could it be?” Hahahaha. The conclusion is... it is seriously spicy.

The Shashlik Special is here!!

The Shashlik Special finally arrived! The first thing I loved was that it came with so many vegetablesㅠㅠ I prefer having onions and vegetables alongside the meat rather than getting a huge plate of meat alone, so I liked this setup.

There is a gentle flame underneath the food too. At first, I saw the onions and thought, “Are these raw onions? Won’t they be a bit too sharp?” But heat kept rising from underneath, so they softened nicely as we ate. The vegetables stayed warm and cooked as we ate the meat, which made them great together.

The meat is grilled directly over charcoal, so it had a subtle smoky aroma, and I did not notice any unpleasant meat smell!! There were two sauces too: a spicy sauce and a teriyaki sauce. Alternating between them meant it did not feel like we were eating the same flavor the whole time, and I did not get tired of it as easily.

So for anyone searching for a good meat restaurant in Jinhae but wanting something a bit different—charcoal-grilled meat together with Western food—I think Shashlik is a nice option. Sometimes when I take my mom to a Western restaurant, she says, “I just want rice,” lol. But that day, because there was meat and lots of vegetables, she ate much better than I expected!! It could be nice when you want a meal with your parents that is a little different from the usual too.

The genuinely spicy seafood pache pasta

And then, the pache pasta in question. The spicy seafood pasta arrived! To start with, it had more seafood in it than I expected. There was plenty of broth too, so it felt more like a spicy brothy pasta than an ordinary tomato pasta.

I took one bite and—oh... it is definitely spicy. Hahahahaha. My mom and I both love spicy food, so we kept eating it saying, “Oh, this is good!” But as we went on, our lips got hotter and hotter lol. It would definitely be too spicy for children, and honestly, I would recommend ordering another pasta if you usually do not handle spicy food well!! The spicy warning on the menu was there for a reason lol.

On the other hand, do you love malatang, jjamppong, or spicy soups? Then there is a good chance you will enjoy this. My mom and I actually thought a bite of meat followed by a bite of spicy pasta was a good combination haha.

Why it was nice for a date with my mom

After visiting, Shashlik Jinhae Branch felt less like a typical Western restaurant that only serves pasta and more like a place with broader menu choices because you can also have charcoal-grilled shashlik steak.

The floor-to-ceiling windows keep the interior from feeling stuffy, and they even have games ready, so my mom and I had more fun than expected while waiting for our food and playing the ice-breaking game!! It may be worth considering if you are looking for Western food in Jinhae and want both pasta and meat, a pet-friendly restaurant in Jinhae to visit with your dog, or a place to meet friends for a wedding invitation gathering :)
