Changwon barbecue restaurant for lamb shashlik and fried rice

Last weekend, my boyfriend and I took a drive to Deokdong for a date. We visited Shashlik Masan Branch, a cozy charcoal barbecue restaurant in Deokdong, Masan that is perfect for a date.

Shashlik Masan Branch is in Deokdong toward Masan Gapo. There is a large parking lot, so parking was easy, and the sea is nearby, making it a nice spot for a stroll, too. Pets are welcome here!

Hours are 11:00–22:00 on Monday and Wednesday through Sunday.

What is shashlik?

The restaurant is inside past this sign. This was my first time trying shashlik, and I looked it up because the name was unfamiliar: it is a traditional dish from Russia and Central Asia, made by skewering meat such as lamb or beef and grilling it directly over a flame.

There was a spacious parking lot behind the restaurant, so we could park comfortably.

The restaurant is on the second floor, so just head up the stairs.

There is a fire pit near the entrance where you can enjoy a campfire for free. I think they even roast marshmallows in winter! The photo I took on the way out was around sunset, which made it feel even prettier and more atmospheric. This autumn season seems just right for enjoying a cozy campfire chat. Once the sun is fully down, it looks like this!

Menu and what we ordered

Please refer to the images for the menu! We ordered the extra-size mixed lamb platter, regular-size special shashlik, Shashlik fried rice, and a Shashlik highball. The regular size serves around 1.2–5 people, and the extra size is about half of that, they said! I wanted to order an extra-size lamb shoulder, but that was not possible, so we went with the mixed lamb platter instead haha.

An interior that blends with the view outside

The interior here was really pretty and full of atmosphere. Natural-looking partitions and plants were used beautifully, so the space blended wonderfully with the scene outside the windows! It is fairly spacious, too,

and it has floor tables and group seating, so it seems like a great place to come for a meal in a nice setting.

The restrooms are separated by gender, and there are high chairs, too! Cute little framed pictures caught my eye, but the view outside was truly beautiful. We visited on a clear day, and the scenery was so lovely that I found myself staring out the window as if enchanted.

The mixed lamb platter and special shashlik

As soon as we ordered, this basic table setting came out.

This was the Shashlik highball I ordered. It was not sweet like a soft drink, but I liked that it was not too heavy!

After waiting a little longer, the main dish, shashlik, arrived. As I mentioned, we ordered the mixed lamb platter and the special.

This portion was the mixed lamb platter, and the rest was the special! Maybe because it was grilled directly over charcoal, the flavors felt even more alive. I also loved the vegetables on top, including mushrooms and pineapple!

I liked that the meat came already grilled and ready to eat. The special shashlik we ordered included different meats such as chicken and pork, so it was nice to try a bit of everything at once. The meat was so delicious and the restaurant atmosphere was lovely, so I was really glad we chose it for our date!

Cheese fried rice and monthly events

After finishing the meat, we ordered fried rice, too. You leave only the vegetables and call the owner over. The owner asked several times whether we were okay with spicy food, so I wondered if it would be really spicy, but it was less spicy than I expected. (Though it might be spicy if you cannot handle heat!) Cheese was melted over the golden fried rice, and it stretched beautifully, which made it fun to eat.

They hold an event every month, and this month's event included watermelon hwachae (fruit punch)! I love watermelon, so I was very, very happy about that event. ZeroPay is accepted here, so I paid with local currency, too ✨️

The meat was delicious and the restaurant atmosphere was great, so it was a truly satisfying meal. They say campfire marshmallows are available in winter, so I want to come back to try the campfire next time. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great barbecue restaurant in Masan or a date spot in Deokdong!
