Gwangalli sashimi restaurant after a Miryang golf round: Geumrang

In short

Geumrang Hoetjip is a sashimi restaurant on the 6th floor of the Marine Rich building in Gwangalli, Busan, with window views of Gwangan Bridge. After a round of golf in Miryang, the writer drove an hour and a half to order the signature subyeon hansang waterside set (60,000 won per person), a course running from abalone porridge and mulhoe (chilled raw fish soup) to gonowata, a wild-caught sashimi platter, merou steak, albap (roe rice) and spicy fish stew. The sashimi was so generous that the refill went untouched, and the leftovers went into the stew with ramen noodles for a final round.

A 90-minute drive from Miryang golf to Geumrang Hoetjip in Gwangalli

Geumrang Hoetjip in Gwangalli, Busan, is a sashimi restaurant with a floor-to-ceiling window view of the Gwangan Bridge. After a fun round of golf in Miryang, I was craving sashimi so~ badly. In the end, driven purely by the desire for fresh raw fish, I drove an hour and a half all the way to Gwangalli, Busan!

Sunny and bright again today. ☀️ Being from Busan, you'd think the sea would feel familiar, but after spending my days hitting balls in the mountains, the thought of finally seeing the ocean got me weirdly excited ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪

Just picturing the wide-open Gwangalli sea and the Gwangan Bridge, plus delicious sashimi waiting for me, had me feeling excited even before arriving.

The course starts with abalone porridge and mulhoe

Before diving into the sashimi, we started with warm, savory abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk) ☺️ Its soft texture was gentle on the stomach and a great way to ease in.

Next came mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) loaded with fresh sashimi in a sweet-and-tangy sauce, along with chewy buckwheat noodles ☺️ Mixing the buckwheat noodles into the cold broth along with the raw fish really woke up the appetite :)

What comes in the 60,000 won subyeon hansang waterside set

Suyeon hansang (₩60,000 per person): premium assorted sashimi, steamed abalone, merou steak, gonowata (salted sea cucumber intestines), nakji tangtangi (chopped live octopus), seasoned shrimp, assorted seafood, seaweed soup, seasonal dish, butter-grilled scallops, sushi, tempura, corn cheese, egg roe rice, and spicy fish stew or clear fish soup (one small-plate sashimi refill included).

Plated assorted seafood dishes from the suyeon hansang set

They recommended the suyeon hansang as the signature menu, so I ordered it without a second thought. From plump shrimp to sea squirt, gaebul (spoon worm), and octopus with wasabi dishes, each seafood item came out neatly plated one by one. With bamboo stands and flower decorations added, the plating felt quite upscale too.

Plate of scored steamed abalone and nakji tangtangi

The abalone had score marks cut in for easy bite-sized eating, and the nakji tangtangi had sesame oil and sesame seeds added, giving it a nutty, savory flavor.

The nicely browned butter-grilled scallops had an irresistibly savory appeal, and being able to try salmon and octopus as well, I really liked how generous the suyeon hansang's composition was.

My younger sibling isn't a big seafood fan, but with side dishes like corn cheese and kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) also served, not just seafood lovers but anyone with different tastes in the group could enjoy something to their liking.

Wild-caught sashimi platter and one gonowata per person

After tasting the seafood dishes one by one, the main event finally arrived — the wild-caught assorted sashimi.

The wild-caught assorted sashimi included a variety of fish like Japanese jack mackerel, sea bass, red seabream, large flounder, and flounder fin.

With so many different types of sashimi neatly arranged, it looked absolutely appetizing, and from chewy to soft textures, each had its own charm — it was fun to try one after another.

Gonowata served one portion per person

A restaurant that gives you gonowata is a restaurant that loves you, haha 💚 They gave us this deep, rich-flavored specialty, one full portion per person, no less.

There was a note explaining how to enjoy gonowata best, so I followed the instructions and dipped the sashimi generously into it.

It said it tastes even better wrapped in seaweed with sashimi, pickled ginger, soy sauce, and sushi rice all together, so I tried it exactly that way ☺️ The deep umami of the gonowata combined with the sashimi and seaweed kept pulling my hand back for more. Before I knew it, I'd opened up three whole packs of seaweed... seriously, it was insanely good ♡

I also tried wrapping it in a perilla leaf >▽<

Merou steak, fried corn and albap to finish the meal

For the meal course, we got spicy fish stew, egg roe rice, merou steak, grilled flounder, and corn fritters ☺️ The sashimi and seafood alone were already filling, but with such a wide range of meal dishes on top, it was a truly satisfying spread.

The grilled merou had such tender flesh with a savory cream sauce that I ended up scraping the plate clean with a spoon, lol.

The crispy fried corn fritters had a fun popping texture and a nutty flavor that was really appealing.

The egg roe rice was so generously piled with flying fish roe that it almost felt like there was more roe than rice. The bursting texture made it fun to chew as well.

Leftover sashimi in the spicy stew, finished with ramen noodles

The spicy fish stew was simmered bubbling hot and had that perfectly spicy, tangy broth flavor. Adding ramen noodles on top of it let the broth soak into the noodles nicely, and the combination of chewy noodles with the spicy broth was really great.

The sashimi portions were so generous that I never even thought about a refill, lol. So as not to waste the leftover sashimi, we added it straight into the fish stew and boiled it up. The deep, refreshing umami released from the fish, combined with the aroma of various vegetables, made the broth taste even cleaner. With one spoonful of the hot broth and a slurp of ramen noodles, it went perfectly with soju too, and made for a very satisfying end to the meal.

With such a wide variety served all at once on one table, this local Gwangalli favorite was great for family outings or gatherings too!! If you're looking for fresh sashimi and a generous full spread while gazing at the Gwangan Bridge ocean view, come enjoy a delicious meal at Geumrang Hoetjip.
