Grilled fresh shrimp and flounder sushi with kids at Ansan sashimi restaurant: Eochongye 1beonji

In short

Eochongye 1beonji is a sashimi and seafood restaurant on the 1st floor of The Hound Bandalseom 2 on Bandalseom island in Ansan, Gyeonggi. Visiting during shrimp season, the writer ordered grilled fresh shrimp and a single serving of flounder sushi with her son, grilling the shrimp right at the table — plump and sweet without any fishy taste, with thick, fresh flounder sushi alongside. With direct elevator access from the underground parking lot, it's an easy family dinner spot to visit with kids.

I visited Eochongye 1beonji (어촌계1번지) on Bandalseom island in Ansan, where you can enjoy fresh sashimi and seasonal seafood 😊 It's shrimp season right now, so I couldn't just walk past. I came with my son, who loves shrimp, to eat grilled fresh shrimp 🦐

The walk from the parking lot to the store

🚗 We came by car. We were able to use the building's underground parking, so we arrived without any parking worries. After parking in the basement, you take the elevator and the store is right there when you get off on the 1st floor. The walk from the parking lot to the store is pretty short, which made it convenient to visit with a kid.

If you're walking in from outside, the building entrance might be a little confusing.

Outdoor atmosphere and outdoor tables

Blue Eochongye 1beonji storefront sign

🏠 There's a big blue Eochongye 1beonji sign right in front of the store. Phrases like 'Bandalseom's leading sashimi restaurant' and 'fresh from the source every day' caught my eye, and I was already looking forward to how fresh the seafood would be before even going in. There were outdoor tables too.

Outdoor tables set up in front of the store

On a nice day, it seemed like a great place to enjoy sashimi and seafood with a cool breeze. Especially in the evening, having a drink outdoors with good food seemed like it would feel completely different from eating inside. I wanted to eat outside too, but my son wanted to go in, ugh

Indoor atmosphere and seating

✨ Once inside, the store was bright and clean. There were plenty of tables and quite a few customers, giving the whole place a lively feel.

I saw a mix of customers, from families to friends. There was group seating too, so it looked good for visiting with a larger group. In the back there was an open kitchen, so you could see the cooking area.

On the wall, the various menu items and prices were laid out clearly so you could see everything at a glance.

Menu and price board on the wall

There was such a wide variety of menu items that it looked like a great place to pick whatever seafood you were craving that day, not just sashimi.

Ordering tablet installed at the table

I also liked that you could take your time browsing the menu and order comfortably using the tablet installed at the table.

The banchan spread

The side dishes (banchan) came out looking neat too.

Ssamjang (dipping sauce), garlic, chili peppers, and beondegi (silkworm pupae) were served neatly in small bowls, and they gave us plenty of perilla leaves too.

Seasonal grilled fresh shrimp, cooked right at the table

🦐 What we ordered was grilled fresh shrimp and one serving of flounder sushi. The grilled shrimp we'd been waiting for came out first.

Grilled fresh shrimp on a bed of coarse salt

Plump fresh shrimp piled high on a bed of coarse salt. Since you cover it with a lid and cook it right at the table, we even got to watch the shrimp turn red as they cooked. It's shrimp season right now and I really wanted to eat grilled fresh shrimp, so I felt like I'd found the right place.

A plate of grilled fresh shrimp cooked red

When the shrimp was still warm, I peeled the shell and took a bite — the flesh was so plump and springy. The bouncy texture hit right away, and the more I chewed, the more that savory flavor came through, so my hand kept reaching for more. Maybe because it was so fresh, there was no fishy taste at all, just clean and really delicious.

The shrimp is so sweet, so sweet

Most of all, my son, who loves shrimp, ate it so happily that I was glad we ordered it. He kept eating one and asking for another, really enjoying it. Shrimp eaten in season really does taste and feel different. It's on a whole different level from steaming it at home.

How was the flounder sushi, one serving?

Along with the grilled shrimp, we also ordered one serving of flounder sushi.

A serving of thickly sliced flounder sushi

The flounder looked white and glossy, fresh even just to look at. Putting a thick slice of flounder sashimi in my mouth, the chewy yet springy texture was really good. I guess sushi really is best eaten at a sashimi restaurant.

The flounder was so fresh it almost felt alive in my mouth. The rice and flounder went well together, and adding a little wasabi and radish sprouts made it even better. Alternating between the grilled shrimp and a piece of flounder sushi in between, the two dishes paired really well together.

Final thoughts — a Bandalseom sashimi restaurant that's good to visit with kids

📝 From the fresh seasonal grilled shrimp to the chewy flounder sushi, our whole family ate well. Being able to use the building's underground parking and having the store right there when you step off the elevator made it convenient to visit with a child. The inside was bright and clean, and having outdoor tables too meant you could enjoy your meal in whatever atmosphere you wanted.

With such a wide variety of menu items, it seemed like a great spot for a family dinner or for having drinks with friends over sashimi and seafood. If you're looking for a good sashimi restaurant on Bandalseom island for when you're craving fresh sashimi and seasonal seafood, stop by Eochongye 1beonji. I got to properly enjoy the springy texture unique to seasonal fresh shrimp, and the flounder sushi was fresh and satisfying too. Since you can pick from such a variety of dishes without breaking the bank, I'd also recommend it to anyone looking for a good value sashimi restaurant in Ansan.

End of meal scene with soju visible on the table

(I really wanted that soju over there haha) If you want to enjoy a delicious seafood spread with your family, try the seasonal menu and fresh sashimi at Eochongye 1beonji, a Bandalseom sashimi restaurant 😊
