For the weekend, I wanted some downtown healing and a few photos, so I went to check out Naemyeonui Balgyeon (내면의 발견), the café that's supposedly hot right now in Seogyo-dong.

I wanted to step away from the chaos of daily life, sort my thoughts out quietly, and have a special cup of tea in a good-looking space to reset my mood — and I'd heard there was a spot in the alleys of Seogyo-dong, between Mangwon Station and Hongik University Station, that's currently the most stylish place around.

The building looked impressive even from outside, so despite it being my first visit I found it without any trouble, and even before stepping inside I could already feel the full force of a trendy, aesthetic hotspot.

Near the entrance, a basalt stone wall with strong Jeju vibes, soft indirect lighting, and lush greenery were all arranged with real style.

Rather than feeling like a cramped alley entrance, it gave off the open, airy feeling of stepping into a chic downtown gallery or art space — the atmosphere was excellent.

Naemyeonui Balgyeon is a café that presents signature drinks carrying the brand's own philosophy. I sat by the floor-to-ceiling window and ordered the signature menu items: Clarity and Mystic Grey.

I took a seat by the big window, with green street trees and sunlight pouring in beyond the glass, and placed my order. Before long, the drinks arrived on a neat, upscale wood tray.

Each drink came with a sentimental card describing its story and ingredients tucked in beside it, so there was real fun in enjoying it with your eyes first.

Clarity: a clear latte

The first drink I tried, Clarity, had a clear, transparent color topped prettily with a skewer of chewy, sweet-tart dried fruit.

Reading the card, Clarity means clearness and sharpness, and surprisingly, the main ingredients listed were just milk and espresso.

They apparently separate the whey using citric acid to create this transparent latte — genuinely fascinating.

One sip in, the bright, vivid fruit acidity of a single-origin Ethiopian espresso and the clean crispness unique to a clarified, transparent latte filled my mouth in a refreshing way.

Paired with the accompanying fruit garnish, the balance was fantastic — a flavor that suits a clear autumn sky or a cool evening perfectly.

Mystic Grey: a seasonal tea with mystic peach and dill

Next, I tried Mystic Grey, which came generously topped with fresh dill herb, and it looked refreshing from the moment it arrived.

It's a seasonal tea made by slow-simmering 'mystic peach' — available only for a short season — at low temperature, then combining it with Lady Grey black tea and dill.

Stirred well with the straw and sipped, the delicate, elegant aroma of the Lady Grey, the sweet peach juice, and the pleasantly cool character of the dill came together beautifully.

It wasn't heavy at all — a crisp yet luxurious sweetness, an attractive flavor that made me feel the tail end of summer and the start of autumn all at once.

Overall, the striking interior that draws genuine admiration, the leisure of a spacious and comfortable space, and the care and unique quality behind every single drink all exceeded my expectations.
