I was looking for a place near Hongdae where I could relax with coffee and dessert, and ended up at Naemyeonui Balgyeon! Even the name feels a bit special, and once I got there, the atmosphere really was different from a typical café :)

Naemyeonui Balgyeon is at 53 World Cup buk-ro 5-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, down an alley in Seogyo-dong. Hours are Mon–Fri 12:00–19:00 and Sat–Sun 12:00–20:00. There are 4 parking spots on-site, and if it's full, you can use the nearby Cheonggiwa public parking lot.

Why this large Hongdae café never feels crowded

A relaxed large café found in Hongdae! Hongdae usually brings to mind crowds and bustle, but Naemyeonui Balgyeon had a different vibe. It's tucked down an alley, a little removed from the busy streets, and once inside, the space was much larger than expected — not cramped at all!

Each floor has a slightly different mood, so this doesn't feel like a place for a quick coffee and out — it's more of a café to explore slowly and settle into a spot you like. It's actually designed around themes like Emptiness, Filling, Pause, and Immersion. Experiencing a different atmosphere on each floor made the time spent there feel a bit more special.

A clean, simple americano. My drink of choice that day was the basic americano. Some days I try new menu items at a café, but this time I wanted something easy to drink alongside dessert, so I went with americano. It let the coffee's own flavor shine, and it paired well with the sweet dessert!

The dessert menu is varied too :) The corn custard pudding was seriously amazing.. and I'm sure the other items are delicious too.

The dessert I was most looking forward to that day was the corn custard pudding — a custard pudding made with corn felt like a fun twist, so I picked it, and it turned out to be a great choice!

The interior isn't just tables arranged in a room — there are corners that feel like an exhibition or art installation, so it's great for photos while sipping coffee. It's comfortable if you want to sit quietly with your coffee, and also works well for exploring the space with a friend or as a Hongdae date spot.

How does the corn custard pudding taste? 🌽

The soft, moist, springy texture typical of pudding comes with a gentle corn flavor added in, making it great to eat alongside coffee! Wow... this is seriously a gem. It's a flavor I want to have again! (The corn aroma spreads gently, and it's not too sweet.)

In particular, the bitter taste of the americano and the soft, sweet pudding complemented each other so well that I kept alternating bites between the two :)

Naemyeonui Balgyeon offers more than pudding — Basque cheese brûlée, cream rolls, cakes, and other desserts are also available, so I'd like to try other desserts next time.
